While we wait to be vacinated, is everyone taking Vitamin D3?

Nothing new here but many studies have shown that taking a Vitamin D supplement can help the immune system fight infections. The sun is the main source of Vitamin D but we get very little of it in this country to meet the bodies needs throughout the winter.

Stay safe all

Yes, I began taking it about 2 months ago - super strength (4000iu) daily.

Apparently, if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, it is recommended that we start taking it for the period of daylight saving hours if you normally work outside or take it all year round if you work indoors.

Started when I got back to the UK, read quite a bit beforehand and was really shocked how important the experts say it is.

It seems to be a bit more complex in that your immune system can be your enemy as well as your friend.

A recent Swedish study on how immune cells may attack the lungs

The jury still seems to be out on vitamin D helping fight Covid-19 from this Lancet article but it still concludes there are many other health benefits of taking it.

On the subject of the immune system, there was an interesting article on where this new virus strain may have come from. One hypothesis is that the virus may have mutated over many weeks in someone with a seriously compromised immune system. With no immune system to fight the virus, the person would have been asymptomatic as the transcription errors multiplied.

I started taking vitamin D when I worked night shifts up to about a year ago, just carried on taking them afterwards. Touch wood, I’ve been fine.

Vitamin D does seem to be quite important for health. Luckily I produce my own, like some sort of superhero
You must be special,if you can do it without the correct diet and UV exposure ( not a lot of UV around at this latitude in winter)

Ok I may have exaggerated. I’m just much better at creating vitamin d from UV light. As is everyone with red hair

Glad I did reading and also recommended several times for everyone on this forum to buy the stuff.

4,000iu since June. High quality years supply bought for £9.99

I’m taking 2,500iu
