While NHS staff cannot get a Corona test

He was served by the nhs. It would be important for him to be to do to ensure confidence remains with the nhs

If he got a private test the same people would still be complaining that he is paid by the taxpayer and got the the test ahead of them

I don’t think it’s hard to understand why he was tested as others have said

This all very amicable and would ge a great sentiment but of course it’s total bollox as for every medical need from sickness to maternity issues even down to a broken arm THE ROYALS ALWAYS GO PRIVATE, so why change now.

Let’s not dress this up it was a selfish act just like flying (whilst sick) from London to Scotland going against the govt advice but oh no it’s ok as they are royals.

A better gesture would have been to donate the test to an nhs worker that really needed it. Or better yet putting their hand in their pockets and paying for them all to be tested.

I'm as anti-royal as they come but the reason he got the test isn't purely selfish. He's part of the royal family so there is huge national interest but that is irrelevant really. The main reason it is worthwhile is that he has been in contact with many people. His job is meeting people. It lets all those people he has been in close contact with recently know that they should be aware that they could have the virus. Also, he's old and so are members of his family. He now knows to stay away from them completely until it has cleared.

The report I read when it first came to light said he was tested by NHS Aberdeenshire. He's as much right as anyone else to avail himself of nHS services, but I somehow doubt he stood in a waiting room at an NHS hospital to get it.

The criticism isn't so much about how many people could have been tested if he hadn't had his (although I'm guessing it'd be a lot more than one), it's about setting an example. They want to be held up and worshipped (not too strong a word I don't think), so if that's the case sticking two fingers up at the whole NHS staff (and the rest of us come to that) is a singularly stupid thing to do. Having said that, the Royals have never been the sharpest tacks in the tin have they?

I have no right to avail myself of the NHS and get a test. I can understand why the NHS might have done this - to see if other 'important' people have been in contact with an infected person.

But your main point is valid. When the Queen said "You can be assured that my family and I stand ready to play our part" I would have hoped he had the integrity to say "no". Even if my point above has validity, those people could have self-isolated like Merkel has.

An interesting viewpoint on this in link below.

What might be to come

Btw it wasn’t just him that was tested either, as camilla (with zero symptoms) was also tested based as well based on nothing at all.

So that was a complete waste

he should just self isolated like everyone else showing mild symptoms . the real story should be why are we not testing vital workers on the front line? why is Germany for instance doing around 10 times the number of tests? similar sized country pop wise with a similar sized economy ?

Perhaps we should seek advice from Germany, or whoever carried out the PMs test.
Germany will soon be doing 500k tests a week. Which puts the uk to shame but if the uk could carry out the same amount of tests it still wouldn’t be enough to test all nhs staff. The uk has over 300k nhs nurses so it would take 600k tests just test them twice a week.

He's a complete waste of space, as is his mother and those preceding her. They serve no purpose whatsoever.

This is the UK though, why shouldn't he be considered more important than those saving lives. It's what we do best.

As I say, its a moving feast.

from 50 mins ago.

"Sir Simon Stevens, chief executive of NHS England, said it was "urgently important that we are able to test frontline workers who are off sick or otherwise isolating".

He said that would mean the number of tests carried out doubling by the end of next week.

And he indicated that testing would be widened out to cover more workers, including essential public service workers and social care workers, as capacity increased.

Testing of patients was "vital" and would continue, Sir Simon added".

Under normal circumstances it would be a fair argument that the future King and his state of health is important to his loyal subjects in the country but knowing he is positive will not make any difference to his chances with this virus. Whereas a doctor who is self isolating but could return to duties if he has a negative test could go and help save some lives.

To me, Prince or no Prince, the test was wasted on him and could have been put to much better use.

All those defending Charles having the test, you do realise this virus cannot be treated don’t you?
