Which major cup final were you most confident going into?

This week 23 years ago we progressed to the League Cup final for the second year in a row, a third Wembley final outing in such time.
Being honest I was confident going into all our major cup finals except the FA cup.

'97 League Cup - of all our major finals, Leicester has to be the one I was most confident going into. Felt like we were going to mark the beginning of a new period.
'97 FA Cup - horrible feeling going into it given everything going on at the time.
'98 had done the hard part getting past Liverpool.
'04 knew we were better than Bolton (but at the same time were Boro!)
'06 felt it was meant to be at Eindhoven after the come backs.

Uefa ...thought schalke were the team to beat .....how wrong was i , time proved how Seville were on the way up ............still think if the blatant penna on Viduka was given , we had a chance , alves was awesome mind

First final v Leicester
We absolutely battered them at there place few weeks before final.
Little fella tortured them.
So I was really confident we would beat them.
Unfortunately made O’Neill come up with his Pontus Kamark plan and we know the rest.

Yes, I was at the match at Filbert Street, and we absolutely mullered them first half.

I agree about the pen vs Seville; the final score flattered them a bit, but I can't complain. We got through the quarter and semi final by throwing on the strikers and going for it. Do that often enough and someone will pick you off as Seville did.

I too was confident of the Leicester cup finals at both Wembley and Hillsborough. I always knew our class would win through in the end 🙈

I always felt we would lose to Chelsea in 97 & 98.
I knew we had the better team in 04 but was so nervous I didn’t know what to expect in truth. It was the longest 69 minutes plus injury time ever after Schwarzer‘s howler.
Eindhoven was a sickener I thought our name was on the cup.

I'd go 04, just felt there was something about the whole weekend that meant it was meant to be. One little tale that emphasised this, I was staying in Swansea and had booked the train tickets the day before (being organised) amd even had sorted the taxi from the hotel to the train station. On the Saturday did a dummy run so I knew how long everything would take and obviously enjoyed the afternoon in the Gatekeepers. Sunday morning comes, nice breakfast bit of banter with a couple of Bolton fans (could sense they were nervous), then outside to wait for the taxi. Little nervous as the time passed and no taxi, then it turns up happy days, out of nowhere 4 Bolton fans turn up and get in it. Not to worry mine will be here shortly, 10 minutes still nothing, now starting to panic, frantic phone call usual response, he's just round the corner. Really panicking now, miss the train won't get in to Cardiff for the atmosphere and would struggle to make kick off. Eventually taxi turns up, bloody ell mate cutting it fine, no problem says taxi driver I'll get you to the station in time. Scariest taxi drive of my life, I swear we took off dukes of hazard style a number of times over speed bumps, overtaking cars in built up areas. Got to the station, knew the platform thanks to my dummy rum and had tickets in pocket. Jumped on the train as the doors closing beeps going off. Sat down and the bloody Bolton fans from the hotel apologised as they'd got in my taxi. No problems I say, making the train is an omen of my lucky day. They laughed but not a reassuring laugh. I knew then we were going to win 😁
