Where is your favourite place in Middlesbrough?

Thanks for those words Ian and Jack.

It's memories such as those that makes me so proud of being a lad of " The Boro "

I know that it isn't exactly " Middlesbrough " of which the OP asked but for me a
lad who hails from Redcar and the " Boro " being in my blood, I see the whole region
as being Boro and we're all " Boro " brothers and sisters as far as I'm concerned.

It's not about nationality or being English, my pride is my region , it's peoples and how giving,
caring and selfless they were which was to be the making and foundation for my identity and
who and what I would, in the future, become.
I owe it all to those dear folk of Warrenby and I will never forget those that were very much a part of my childhood.

Not Boro, but Saltburn is always my go to place
Not sure why, it just makes me feel happy. The few times I've been in a dark place, I jump in the car and go to Saltburn, reset and feel good again. Probably more about my mind than the place

I would retire there but the Mrs isn't a massive fan. Hey ho

I've often thought if I moved back to the north east Saltburn would be the place i'd like to be. Definitely one of my happy places.

Roseberry topping - Love going up there, been with the kids a few times, and the mrs twice but ill drag her up a few more. Love going up and down different ways, how the view is always different depending on the weather and the time of day. I'd love to go up for Sunrise and a Sunset.

Saltburn - Pier, the walk past the 'new' beach huts, a scramble up Cat nab.

Errington Woods - Walking through there on the different paths, up the steps, round the old pond and picnic area. Really nice woodland that and the old blokes who tend to it have made it really good over the last few years, replacing broken steps, new footpaths etc

Stewarts Park - Lovely that, a decent walk round there and all round the back bit round the pond, kids love it.

Side note - I've never been up Eston Nab, never actually figured out how to get there but i'd love to have a look from there over the area on a clear day, and i think if i did, it would make the list. Never been in the Dormans museum either.

Yeah Stewy Park for me too actually in Middlesbrough. Marske beach is absolutely incredible and completely under appreciated.
Shh about Marske beach. I love the fact it's undervalued by the public.

You look at Saltburn beach on a weekend, bank holiday or during the summer, and it's jam packed. Only a couple of miles away, Marske is better and always quieter. Love Marske beach.

Long may it continue.

Park in flats lane country park. When you get out of your car walk up to the style at the top left of the field. Cross flats lane carefully, which has been made easier by the owners of the cottage installing a footpath, then go up the steps through the woods and turn left. Pigs bank is ahead of you. Walk up pigs bank and enjoy the views as they start to open up. Once your at the top you can see the nab. Enjoy the walk across the top past the old sheep wash. At the nab you can sit on the cliff and eat your cheese sandwich before walking back the same way as you came.
If your of reasonable fitness it will take about 40 minutes each way.

Probably only really Stewart Park in Middlesbrough that I'm a fan of.

I like looking at the Transporter Bridge but I can't say the actual area around it is nice.

Loads of places around the rest of Teesside that I like, of course.

I always thought it was kind of something like this, park up and go into flatts lane and up there but i got told by a mate to park up there, but go straight over the road through the car park of that NHS building and up that way? I'm going up tomorrow with the Mrs and we'll get up whether it kills us. Roseberry topping usually takes us about 20-25mins to get up, if we go to the right and up past the shooting box.

Used to be Poole lake and woods. Spent so much time there as a kid fishing and messing around with friends.
Was sad last weekend to find the track now lined with new houses and the lake completed fenced off.

As I'm sure I've mentioned this is one of my favourite places on Earth, but don't come down the way you've gone up. Drop down vertically (in a sense) from the nab and you'll hit a well managed walkway which goes to the SS Castle (Mine Ventilation Point Fan House) if you turn right then walk back along the same path to where you've left your car avoiding bikes/motorbikes around the elephant's a*se shale banks. Keep your eyes open for interesting sights.

A difficult question as some of the places that come to mind no longer exist eg Cannon Street and the old Newport Road. After moving from Cannon Street at the age of 5, the still unfinished Park End was like being moved into the deepest countryside. The beck, Pennymans Wood, Ormesby Station (now Marton) and the Grove with it's entrance to Stewart Park. I'd be out all day with my border collie Shap just exploring this new playground.
1963ish?

If you want a longer walk, continue heading away from the nab towards Wilton. You'll head down into the woods and past the secret SS Castle. From there you can head back to Flatts Lane along the middle of the hills using the old train line path to the Elephant's **** and back.

Nice memories coming back triggered by the last few posts. Riding on the neighbour's horse and cart to a fish-mongers near the transporter. Doing a milk round up Church Lane and Ormesby Bank before school. Nicking off said school up Eston Hills as I hated it so much. First job after art college was at the Dorman Museum designing the catalogues/publicity. EDIT First house 100 yards from Ayresome Park.
So you delivered our milk and another poster on here deliveried our paper :D

Any postman/woman on here deliveried our letters? :giggle:
