Where is Liz Truss?

Some take that
It staggers me things like that. I know the general, uninterested public will happily believe their “mainstream media” lie the hard right are spreading. But this is a politically aware board, to read this and still believe the lie takes some doing

Even the IMF are weighing in and exposing the grift.
There is universal disapproval of these tax cuts no one is going to better off even the rich if you take its effect on the housing market. The loss of value in your property is likely to be substantially more than the cut in tax .truss wanted to make a bold Thatcherite policy but it's spectacularly back fired so much so the IMF have had to spell it out for the government.

Now, have they the gumption (and decency) to reverse their decisions, making them look incredibly incompetent, but rescuing our tanking economy?

I won't hold my breath

They will have to reverse the policies. As it stands they may not even get through parliament.

The one thing that surprizes me is that both Kwartang and Truss must have known how reckless the mini budget was as they refused to have the policies scrutinized. This suggests they were aware of the damage it would cause. I think they are suprised by how quickly the markets reacted, but they must have known there would be a backlash yet went ahead anyway. This beggars belief.

I have no interest in politics and stopped voting years ago but as far as I can remember has the IMF ever come out and criticised the past decade of Austerity? Aren’t they part of the system that ensures the wealthiest 2% of people own 95% of the money. ( or whatever the figure is)

.
First U-Turn ahoy?

Let's hope so. I know govts get criticism for U-turns... but when they've royally f***** up, it's better a U-turn than stubbornly sticking to their guns. Sadly, I suspect the IMF warning will fall on deaf ears, but hopefully not.

The IMF are pro fiscal responsibility, so they've largely been in favour of austerity. At the moment though, with the cost of living crisis, and rising/spiralling inflation, they see it as a wholly inappropriate time for a host of publicly funded tax cuts that mostly benefit the rich. There have also been recent studies that have shown that these sort of 'trickle down' tax cuts for the rich don't benefit the poor, thus leading to greater wealth inequality further down the line.

The IMF usually make statements on emerging Nation's economies, but as has just been said on the BBC for them to come out with this statement is "Frankly embarrassing!"

I honestly can’t remember a Primer Minister making a worse/more difficult start.

The Queen passing away after 2 days of her Premiership, what with that effectively shutting Parliament down for nearly a fortnight, then this absolute disaster of a mini budget.

Not that I feel in any way sorry for her mind.

There is an absolutely poignant series of tweets by Russ Jones which magnificently highlights what has gone on with the Truss Administration in just two weeks. 66 points. Well worth the read. Read the full conversation.

I kept telling people we were better with Boris Johnson and that she can do a lot of damage in two years. But would you listen? No. And now we're stuck with her. And she's only taken 2 weeks. Still at least she's crashed the housing market.
