When will I be able to stop using both boards?

Oh I see, a while off then.

The thing is though, why are most people still using the old board?

It could be that they don’t know about this board. I hadn’t been on FMTTM for a while and when I had a look on there a couple of weeks back I was seeing a few threads mentioning this new board and a thread about posters who were on the invite list for it. I just assumed that it was an in-joke about there being a new board that only a select few (non-moaners) were allowed to use because of the amount of people that complained about the old one.

Anyway, intrigue got the better of me and I decided to see if there really was a new board, and here I am. 👍🏻

perhaps the other users of the old board aren’t as inquisitive as me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We are only disagreeing on timing. I agree 100% that there will have to be a close down date announced at some point. To force people across. However, I feel that, at present, the "management" are not able to announce a date that they are confident to hit. Better to do some planning, see whether they are on track and then announce a close down date. Rather than just plucking a date out of the air and hoping.
Fair enough but even if they missed the date I doubt they'd be criticised for keeping the old board open. Promising something new and not delivering it was what Rob got stick for. I can't imagine he'd get stick just for keeping the old board open a bit longer than planned, if that's what it came down to. But I think with no one working towards a date we might find this board just doesn't really take off.

The quote from Rob on the old board says "a couple of months" - so with a bit of contingency you could say that the aim is by the end of April 2020. However this is without a supporting plan to justify the date.

I have nothing to do with it actually. I just moderate both places. There are other stakeholders and complexities that even the most learned of you are unaware of. In the meanwhile, there is a gradual migration underway which I will try to keep up with ... but I'm not going to just approve any old account as there have already been plenty of mischievous/malicious folks trying to come and **** you all off.

Let the mischievous ones in! They're fine. We should all be able to deal with those.

Would agree about the malicious ones, there is a line that shouldn't be over-stepped.

It really depends what is being tested on this site. If it's load then that can't be done with a skeleton user base. If it's features they'd be better off closing the new board down until it's ready for everyone. Splitting the user base in two will make both boards quiet and could see people leave for other sites. Or at the least they should restrict who can post here to a handful of testers and keep it hidden from anyone else, especially if it's going to be months.

Forcing people to create content doesn't work. You get a handful of people posting random rubbish that others get bored of hearing from. It has to be organic and sincere like the old board is and that is only really achieved by having enough numbers.

Yeah I think Mike is probably right.

In other words, come on Rob let's just kill the old board! You're being a bit Corbyn/Brexity about it. Leave means leave! :)
