When do we all think life will go "back to normal" ?

Yes it's a points based immigration system, although if you are in the critical skills area you do get extra points, my wife is a nurse so we really got in on her. You dont need a job to come to, but it helps.
House prices have gone up massively, and it is a very expensive place to live, much more so than the UK. Having said that, here the onus is not on how much you earn, wgmhere you live or what you drive, but getting the most out of life.

Right. That's a start anyhow. I'm currently looking at various options and NZ is high on the list. Will obviously dig deeper and look at the official stuff on the net but cheers for that. I'm optimistic for a new start. Need to get away from the UK for damn sure.

Wait till your borders open up - Australia thought they were doing well a few months ago and look what's happening now - terrible... i have an extremely old relative in Melbourne.... awful times for them all
I think the Australia experience will mean our borders will remain closed for some time, and to be fair the politicians have all been open about that. Even the ones who were talking about an australasian bubble have gone quiet.
That's what I mean about the world passing us by, it's like we are living in a parallel universe and you hear about people in Europe going overseas, which we can do but you have to quarantine when you get back. I suppose a bit like Spain and the UK now.
Mind, we do have to pinch ourselves and remember what is going on. We do have heaps of things to see and fo within our own borders.

Sounds a lot. Different from the USA where, for the most part, it's the opposite.

I’ve been signed off work with depression today

I just want a normal when I get to go into an office and sit and do my job surrounded by Colleagues Rather than stuck at home alone not seeing anyone for days on end with no social contact whatsoever

i want a normal when I can go to a football match. Or go into a pub With two mates and not have to sit at three different tables.

I want a normal when I don’t have to look like an alien from doctor who when I go Food shopping. I have massive anxiety about wearing a mask I have always been self conscious. I’m at the stage now when I get stressed running out of bread or milk.

I want my old life back. This whole F***ing **** show is eating away at me.
Hang in there, this forum is very supportive, and it's great that you can offload with these sorts of illnesses and feelings without anybody getting back at you it's an excellent community for that. Never forget that as a member of this board you are never alone

What happens if there isn't a vaccine / cure for years? Is NZ gonna be essentially permanently locked down while the rest of the world has "some form" of herd immunity (if the herd immunity theory proves correct)

Keep going mate we are all with you.

The wife has just gone back to work after over a year off and feels like a new starter. Stress levels through the roof. I'm due back at work September and no idea what to expect.

Ridiculous difficult times .

I don't think we're far away from a vaccine, I can see it being out before the end of the year. My biggest worry is similar to Randy, Alves et Al that we are potentially doing more harm than good with increasing lockdown restrictions. People are frightened to go to doctors, A&E, work, shopping etc and that isn't sustainable for a healthy society I'm afraid.

Not any time soon. And clearly some people just think they're above it, so I'm glad the police are being asked to enforce it - or it will never end

This is so true. I went to pick up a prescription recently and the levels, barriers you needed to go through was crazy. The mental health of the nation... the world must be at an all time high. Only consolation; if it is one, is that we're all in the same boat. Well, most of us anyway!!

I took my Mrs in to Boots today for her pneumonia jab (big thanks to guys on here for alerting me to it) and whilst she was in the consulting room I overheard an elderly lady trying to explain that she had a prescription to pick up but didn't want to get in to trouble for coming in to the store get it. I just wonder how many people have this attitude with other things now?

So many scared people, unsure of what to do, how to go about the most basic needs.

I dont know. We cant stay like this forever.
I've seen studies that say here immunity may not work, as at the moment a large percentage of people who have had the virus lose their antibodies after 3 months. Who's to say that if you catch covid againn it will be worse and time around.
We are keeping an eye on Iceland. They were in a similar position to us and have opened their borders. It's also Wibter down here, which may make catching it easier? Maybe they will relax the borders more in Spring/Summer.
I know one thing for sure, people here are loath to give up the way of life we have at the moment to go back to local lockdowns etc at whatever level.

eddie howe may beg to differ

I have faith that science will win the day and we’ll get back to some level close to normality, sooner than we think. It may be that successful treatments are found before a vaccine is rolled out. I believe that necessity is the mother of invention.
This, this is our hope. I keep saying it but please stop putting your faith in a vaccine. One can’t possibly be ready this year.
