When did Boris become the messiah

So tell me why it's the government's fault that people are stupid?

And I'll say again I'm not a fan of Tory governments but people are looking for blame on the wrong places

200,000 "stupid people" who went to Cheltenham. If the Authorities had done the right thing and called it off ( as many other events had been previously closed off the weekend before) then think how many lives that may have saved. But no the racegoers didn't think that there was a danger. If the Government did why did they allow them that freedom?

Going back to the original premise that the Government were somehow caught off guard is insulting in its fallacy.

Look, we get it, people hate the Tories, I'm not their biggest fan either, but they were far more electable than new new Labour. Regardless of the situation people will always find fault, and that's in any walk of life. But if you seriously think a party (Labour) who when last in power completely destroyed the UK economy and lost the last 3 general elections, the most recent with the worst ever result, would have handled the current situation any better then you are either naïve, stupid, or both.

Who is this 'New Labour' you speak of? A bit of a tip for you, when you get into a hole stop digging. You're taking whataboutery to new levels and what's more, you're still refusing to acknowledge in any way, shape or form the responsibility of THIS Tory Government in their running down of the NHS, their failure to heed evidence based warnings that we had weeks before other countries an their continuing position of putting business ahead of people.

And yet you have the temerity to question whether people are stupid. Talk about a complete lack of self-awareness.

But these people chose to go to Cheltenham even after the advice to avoid large gatherings.

Why this sudden reliance on the government holding people's hands?

If we're using that as an example of the Government treating the general public as grown ups and seeking to advise rather than insist, I can *just about* live with that. However, when 200,000 people IGNORED that and still turned up anyway it should have been a catalyst for the government to start enforcement action should it not? However, despite Joe Public ignoring advice to avoid social gatherings, we are still WEEKS LATER finding people ignoring the advice. How can anyone defend that?

The message from the Culture Secretary was go to Cheltenham and enjoy yourself but wash your hands it was ‘business as usual’ you can’t call people stupid when they follow the advice given to them that if you weren’t old, ill or vulnerable you’d be ok.

The Labour wrecked the economy myth is as irrelevant as it is untrue, when the Conservatives have been in power for a decade and are still borrowing more than any Labour Government ever did.

The Government got somethings right but other things wrong at the moment, given our death rate in relation to Germany, it looks like we should have done better and followed their model and the herd immunity policy was one of those mistakes.

The government advised only essential travel at the start of the Cheltenham festival week. But failed to criticise all those who ignored that request. As a number of attendees went down with Covid-19 symptoms, the response from the organisers was "The Festival concluded three weeks ago and went ahead under the clear and ongoing guidance from the government and its science experts throughout".

I never once said the government were caught off guard. Of course there were things they could have done better. But too many people are refusing to take responsibility for their own actions and looking to blame the government instead. That's got to be a point everybody can agree on surely.

" ignoring the advice. "- And that is part of the problem. Is it only "advice" or is it mandatory? Because I have heard various ministers calling it both an instruction and advice. My family do not go out at all unless it is for food shopping or to walk the dog. Even then we only go out two at a time. We understand the importance of isolation. Some people think it is only "advice" and cannot be enforced. And this is the mentality of people who look for loopholes to squeeze through. FFS, why give them an excuse to be wandering the streets when all that was needed in the beginning was to pass legislation stating that isolation is a LEGAL obligation , any offenders will face X amount of imprisonment.
Failure to do this simple step was absolute p*** poor leadership.

who isnt taking responsibility for their actions and also blaming the government?

Again a clear sign of a lack of clarity in the Government’s message, Oliver Dowden said ‘it’s business as usual and there’s no reason to cancel nor do we have any plans to change that’ on the Monday before the festival started. Some people decided not to go but plenty did on the basis of the Government’s advice, Liverpool played Madrid in the Wednesday with 3500 Madrid fans travelling to the game, many who had come from a city in lockdown.

The Government are the biggest culprits when it comes to not taking responsibility.

The arguments about the NHS being underfunded and having been savagely cut for a decade is for another day; what is not for another day is the woeful preparation for any such event as this.

I saw a report a day or two back about the government having been warned in 2017 IIRC that the NHS was woefully underprepared to deal with a pandemic based on a study carried out after the Ebola outbreak. They sat on their hands.

They had weeks head start on the current situation before it hit Britain and didn’t prepare. They sat on their hands.

Then, when things got serious they should have enforced a full lockdown when it became apparent that the British public couldn’t be trusted. They sat on their hands.

Try pointing the finger in the right direction and criticise the government for what has been a woeful response to this pandemic, and the absolute lack of leadership was plain to see long before Johnson became poorly having not followed his own governments advice.

Hadn't realised the Liverpool game was the same week!

Who mentioned the Labour party.

Seeing as you did you have no idea how the Labour party would have handled it. Its just supposition on your part on the other hand we can see the mistakes this Government is making.

not making any mistakes only by virtue of not being in power to make them is hardly a ringing endorsement nor is it evidence that any govt other than this one would have handled it a) any better and/or b) any differently

should we run a parallel pandemic and have a Labour govt in power as well, we'll score them each at the end of the day to see's who is 'winning'

The only people to blame for this covid-19 crisis are the Chinese and the World Health Organisation.

As I have said previously Rico you talk a lot of nonsense. No one mentioned any other party, only the tories have done a crap job and cost lives. I wonder what your take would be if you had lost a loved one.

He hasn't yet. But somebody remarked that when the Telegraph start referring to him as "The Dear Leader" We could be getting close.
