What's really happening with this new Labour government

FullFact is totally independent unlike some posters on here who claim to be.

Who's that like?

Looks pretty impressive to me at a quick glance.

Tbh I don't really agree but thats not so surprising.

Stuff like “We will set out the path to spending 2.5 per cent of GDP on defence” being ticked as fully completed, when it turns out the way they're doing this is by cutting the foreign aid budget and independence benefits for the disabled just comes across as slimey rather than something particularly impressive.

"Ending the wasteful Migration and Economic Development partnership with Rwanda”. Mega, buzzing, best government ever.

“Labour will cap corporation tax at the current level of 25%, the lowest in the G7, for the entire parliament” - this is one of the 'appears on track' policies. Of course its on track. Who's going to pressure them to increase corp tax? The tories? The media? Whys it good to be the lowest in the G7? Should this be the aim of a Labour government?

Yeah yeah goodo. But presumably Lodger posted all that cause he actually wanted to discuss the website he linked with someone, no?

No matter how you spin it, all we're getting at the minute is more austerity. It's not what people voted for and I fear they are going to throw away a golden opportunity to actually do some good. I hope they prove me wrong.

Lammy's response to the atrocities in Gaza this week have been nauseating. I have more respect for Kit Malthouse!

I think you might be missing the point of the website. It isn't there to comment on whether a policy is good or bad but to assess whether it had been delivered. Given you didn't like labours policies it's probably not for you, unless, of course, they were not delivering on their manifesto then you would love it, I imagine.

"Sustained economic growth is the only route to improving the prosperity of our country and the living standards of working people. That is why it is Labour’s first mission for government"

Labours first mission is seriously off track it would seem.

Of course Labour is seriously on track in assisting in genocide and attacking the vulnerable and disabled

I think ‘in progress’ and ‘on track’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that list.

To me the simple fact is that none of the things they say they have achieved have made a difference to the everyday lives of the vast majority of people. Things are getting worse if anything.

Until that changes, they are failing.

What has been achieved..

“We will create a new Border Security Command, with hundreds of new investigators, intelligence officers, and cross-border police officers” - I'm guessing that needed to be done after the conservative party pretty much did away with Border Security.

“We will introduce a Football Governance Bill, which will establish an independent regulator to ensure financial sustainability of football clubs in England” - not that arsred tbh honest, folks are genuinely struggling.

“Every fiscal event making significant changes to taxation or spending will be subject to an independent OBR forecast” - you'd think that would have been a given.

“Labour will establish a National Wealth Fund” - the UK Infrastructure Bank?

"Ending the wasteful Migration and Economic Development partnership with Rwanda” - seems like a no brainer.. ending something which didn't work at all. Is that an achievement?

“We will immediately update the National Policy Planning Framework [sic] to undo damaging Conservative changes, including restoring mandatory housing targets” - that would have to be done anyway.. but an acknowledgement of how bad the conservative party have been on infrastructure. a plan to build more than.. 0 houses.

“We will set out the path to spending 2.5 per cent of GDP on defence” - NATO has recommended 2% and we are increasing that.

“We will negotiate additional returns arrangements to speed up returns” - making something nigh on non existent work better.

not much.. the conservative party were totally shyte.. but I just think they got tired of the grift.. they were bored of it and gave up. they've handed the keys over to SKS to keep the engine running.. and nothing much of anything has been going on.

a very low bar has been set and it seems they are keeping very busy by not being as dreadful as the totally incompetent disaster capitalists before them. I still think it will take much more than this to remain in government next time around.

plenty of much worse ideas on the horizon lol
