What's gone on in Bournemouth?

A man who was 'on the water' has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. Sounds like it could be a boating or other watercraft incident of some sort.

Read elsewhere that the guy had been encouraging the kids to jump off the pier .. "tombstoning" ..

Tragic, can't imagine what their friends & families are going through.
I hope it was a benign incident rather than one of the more lurid 'theories' being circulated on SM at the moment.

According to the news I was listening to last night it’s believed he brought his boat too near and the waves caused by it being too near caused the victims to get into difficultly.

Really sad state of affairs... The little ferry has been taking people up and down the coast for years for sightseeing. He loads up at the pier and heads off. looks like he has set off at a bit of a pace trying to make some time up and the kids have been caught in the vessel wake. The whole thing has been compounded by a bad rip current in the area at the time.

Its strange as I have been down here loads of times as family live close, I've seen the boat coming in and out and never liked the idea of how close to shore it was.... it always looked like an accident waiting to happen (in terms of the boat hitting the pier or a wave flipping it/beaching it) but never thought it would end like this.

No idea why the police are being so sketchy about the whole thing, its just causing people to speculate wildly and causing more issues. The really stupid thing about their statement was that as soon as the MAIB said they were involved it was clear it must mean a vessel was involved.

I had the misfortune to catch the interview with some senior police officer yesterday lunchtime, which she did US style, live, near to where the tragedy happened.

Lots of fanfare and theatre to pretty much say nothing that wasn't already known. She also had a very weird shouty style, which didn't help.

Im amazed that this seems to be developing into the new norm for the police forces across the country... the one yesterday was just completely pointless and designed to invite more questions than it actually answered.

I get that its an active investigation but to not even give the most basic of information is just silly.

I got the impression that the interview was more about exposure for the person concerned, than it was about serving its natural purpose.

It was a car crash lesson of how not to mange the media.
