Whatever happened to food in nightclubs?

I once went to a nightclub in Blackpool in the 80’s, which had small American style booths with lamps on the table and food could be ordered. There was different artists singing/performing, with a small dance floor in front of the stage.

In was a proper American style night club you see in the gangster films and a great night.

The Millennium at Teesside park had a burger bar and then fairground rides outside! You can only imagine the consequences for 16/17 year olds who couldn't handle their beer 🤢

Yeah was definitely part of the licence conditions. I was working at the Cornerhouse late 90's when Middlesbrough council started enforcing it, so places in the town centre had to do something, as licencing were starting to come in and check. We had the guy from Oodles Noodles come in for a while and sell food, but then food hygiene got him in regards to how long you could have stuff out. We ended up just doing £1 microwave meals for £5. Funny enough only ever sold 1

The Jazz Cafe opposite the Forth in Newcastle only had a food license, so you’d be forced upon entry to order either a single frozen chicken burger or single frozen veggie burger with your £3 entry fee in order to buy drinks, which was either cans of Skol from a normal household fridge or bottles of astonishingly awful red wine.

Magnificent place.
Same kind of deal at the Jewish mother up towards St James park back in the day.
Order a crappy small pizza and get stuck into the beer until the early hours.
Some kind of live music also I think.

Blackpool was probably the original, the American ones are just Blackpool themed.

Used to occasionally end up at the Flammy in Darlo, always well oiled mind, I always ended up over doing it and food was never an option for me for at least 24 hrs afterwards 🤢

Tuxedo Royale also sold food at some point but I think that stopped! It was in the bar to the immediate left as you went through the main entrance! I think I also remember liquid selling food in the back room. I think clubs stopped selling as most people were just grabbing a quick burger in between bars and clubs from the many burger vans that seemed to be around in early 2000s.
