I think he might be wondering where Boro alone might sit in the FIFA ranking system if allowed to enter a World Cup alongside the existing countries, although can’t be certain.

The home nations are probably the best guide? We are significantly stronger than NI. Roughly comparable but perhaps not quite as good as a full strength Scotland or Wales.

Interesting question. I reckon all the top club sides would comfortably beat most if not all of the top international sides on ability, even down to say 7th in the Premier League / top 3 or 4 in other leagues.

You’d have to take out Allison and Fabinho and I’d say they wouldn’t. The advantage a club side has over an international side is the fact that they regularly play together. It’s an interesting aspect in International rugby and one of the reasons why Ireland do so well these days. Many of their players play with each other in club rugby.

It’s different during a World Cup though when sides get together well before a tournament.

And to answer the OPs hyperthetical question would Boro qualify for a World Cup? Yes if we we were allowed into The Oceania Conference. We would give the Cook Islands and NZ a game.
