What was happening in the world during the year you had your 21st Birthday

Berlin Wall came down and various other events that signalled the end of the USSR.

George Bush (the elder) became President of the US.

Hillsborough disaster.

Boro relegated on final day at Hillsborough. Gutted.

I broke my arm quite badly in a motorbike accident
This
I remember the day of Hillsborough quite clearly, we were at QPR playing out a bore draw in a ultimately failed attempt at staying up.
Even before the SF had been played there was controversy about the allocations and which end had been given to Liverpool, they had played each other in one of the previous years semi final at Hillsborough and I think ( but not sure) they had been given the kop that time, the match had passed without any incident. It felt like going into the 89 semi that feelings were running high even before the police lost the plot.

Margaret Thatcher trounced Michael Foot in the General Election.
Amazing to think , Foot only received 1.3 million less votes than Starmer did , to trounce the Tories this year.

Tories out and new labour in
Car crash in a Parisienne tunnel.
Radiohead release OK computer

Don’t think Boro had much to report in 1997.

Everyone was s***ing themselves about the Millennium Bug.
Devolved parliaments opened in Scotland and Wales.
The Euro came into use.
Napster opened it's doors and changed music forever.
Jill Dando was killed in a stone cold whodunit that's still unsolved.
Man Utd won the treble.
My favourite NFL team, Broncos, won their second Superbowl and their legendary QB John Elway retired.
Tony Hawk landed a 900.
WWE wrestler Owen Hart died in a ring entrance accident. I add this one as it was actually on my 21st birthday and I was watching the PPV when it happened.
