What little things are you doing during the Covid-19 outbreak?

I'm doing daily temperature monitoring and have created a quick spreadsheet for a cleaning schedule, not because it won't get done, more to try and gamify it and create a habit streak.
For those with kids soon to be at home it could be a good chance to keep them occupied, build good habits and reward them for anything that fights the spread of the virus.

I am spending more time on cooking our meals. I can take more time over it as I am not doing a lot of other things due to the lock down (golf, short mat bowls, progressive whist etc.).

Also spending a lot more time on here as I cannot get out much.

I meant in relation to the virus outbreak Spanishman, not what you're doing with additional free time :) It's good that you are keeping busy though.

Wife working from home so she made some minestrone. Third lunch in a row. Scrummy.

Oops meant to put this in the good news thread.

Temp checking on daily basis as are many!
Trying to shop early morning for things we are short off - right now the list reads, washing powder/pods, washing up liquid, disinfectant, paracetamol, bread, milk, veg, fruit (especially berries to try to improve immune systems).
I see no reason to stock up on anything and just want fresh produce available (apart from above cleaning items)
Checking neighbours - mainly on social media to make sure the older folk are OK.

Speaking of which has anyone seen the Green Card / Red Card ide in the windo w so people can indicate their status?

I checked on my neighbour this morning and got stuck in a longer conversation (from a distance of course) than I'd have liked :). Seriously though, making sure anyone who is in lockdown gets some human interaction is essential.

This crisis has brought me a closer working relationship with our local parish council. They are starting to trust me as a way of disseminating their information to the non-Spanish community.

We have what most people would call a small (5ft) fridge freezer so our ability to horde is very limited and we will be necessity have to shop weekly as we have done for years.
In order to maximise the amount of space in the freezer I yesterday emptied the contents out and rebagged everything into IKEA resealable bags.
You'll be surprised how much room you can make if you take a bag of frozen peas that is in a ball and sealed with a plastic clip and transfer it into a bigger resealable bag that you can flatten to look like a padded envelope.
Chips, frozen veg etc soon become nice little flat packages that you can stack up.
If you've got packs of meat still in their plastic trays then you split them into bags and free up what would otherwise be dead space taken by the packaging.
We went from a pretty disorganised and packed freezer to a nicely organised space with room to take any frozen leftovers that we may generate through the week.

Making my own hand sanitiser.
Taking neighbours dog for walks and regular contact with people over the road who are self isolating

Self imposed rationing - not a bad thing , whilst doing our own version of Ready, Steady....Cook

I freeze my pre-cooked stuff into individual portion size bags, so that you only defrost what you need at anyone time and if one person wants chicken curry, another beef bourguignon and a third lasagne it’s no problem. I just stick a date and what it is on a label on the side, saves room and gives you an idea of when it needs to be used by.

I’m going fishing (on my own) few hours on a bank side, watch the wildlife, take in the fresh North Yorkshire air - doubt i’ll meet anyone

Same here. No large freezer so no mass hoarding.

Ours is a 6 foot one. With the freezer being around 30 inches. So pretty similar. I have a habit of double cooking. So the next two days stuff will come out of the freezer. Prawn, spinach and chickpea stew today. With easy chicken tagine tomorrow.

Next week I will probably cook one of the dhal recipes suggested on here. Plus some other ones. I still need to perfect my Thai fish cakes. Using the ingredients in the recipe they do not hold together. May have to add a second egg and some more rice flour.

Making sure the beers cold to fight off any temperature rises (y)

Daily temp checks for me and my family but I'm still going out to work everyday so making sure I wash my hands a lot!
