What is the future of Middlesbrough FC?

As fans, we all have our own ideas and opinions on where the club is headed in the future. Some of us may be optimistic about the club's prospects, while others may be more skeptical.

What are your predictions for where the club will be in 5 or 10 years? What do you think the club needs to do to achieve success in the future?

I love the new vision under Scott and Carrick but I think it will make us competitively self sufficient and safe in a ever growing (in money and competition) championship rather than establish in the top tier

Until Gibson leaves we won’t move forward.

If we can follow this new vision plus stop the reliance on loan players while keeping stability at management level, no reason why we can’t be successful. But they need to realise it all takes time, no point in hitting the panic button again the second thing get tough, sacking the manager and bringing in an entire new squad every season will get us nowhere

I don’t know and it’s a troubling thought to be honest. I think we’ll continue to be a good team and a good club, but it won’t be as special after Steve Gibson winds it in.

Criticise the man’s decisions all you want, I know I have, but you can never criticise his heart.

It’s a unique thing we’ve had, a local, football-daft owner who took over so young and brought the club up from almost going out of business to a cup and a European final, with all the amazing stars and moments along the journey. Sport and glory. Without a doubt he’s as much of a fan as any of us and without a doubt being the custodian of MFC will have been the pleasure of his life.

I too think he might sell or step back a bit, if not when we next get in the PL, then over the next ten years. It’s a harder game now than it was 25 years ago and really Gibson is a millionaire playing in a billionaire’s club now.

It won’t be quite the same club with a ‘normal’ owner. Not all owners are bad, so it might be alright but some of them are really bad; and it’s also a guarantee that the next owners won’t have the same deep and special affiliation with the club as Steve Gibson does. Unless Ben Gibson or David Wheatear win the EuroMillions and buys us.

I’d say a Carling Cup won by Steve Gibson and Juninho would be more special than a PL title bankrolled in 3 years by the Saudi state, put it that way.

I disagree, last season under wilder and now carrick we are showing promotion form. The league is tighter than a ducks ****.
We had a solid 10 game spell last season, and have won 4 in 8/9 games under carrick, it’s hardly promotion form. Fact remains we have come closer to going down than going up in recent years

Aside from the woodgate season I disagree, we have come close with 7th place finishes and getting in the play offs the season after relegation

The future of our club? In the balance I would say. However there will always be a Middlesbrough FC but it could be far removed from the division we currently ply our trade.

What never ceases to amaze me is the undying loyalty to Gibbo.

Rather than being blamed for the dire current financial situation he presided over - and yes it largely down to him- he is feted as the saviour!

Just to be clear, he has made us unsaleable and has placed us in a financial abyss not seen at this level since the days we went bust.

And before anyone starts, yes I appreciate and recognise what he did for the club - that is heading on for nearly 40 years ago!

The financial situation has - and continues- to be forensically analaysed by Indeedido. And pretty bleak reading it offers.

So to those who continue to blindly follow Gibbo without ever questioning decisions, financial aspects- well of course that is down to you.

Others have concerns about the viability of the club due to a series of horrendous decisions made - managerial appointments, transfers- that have no doubt helped in the size of our indebtedness.

What do you count as success? We will never win the top division and there is an outside chance of winning the FA Cup. The League cup won't exist soon so we'll probably never win that again. We'll definitely never win the champions league.

If success is just getting in the PL and staying there a bit then we will be there again. Chances of us slipping down a league or 2 are probably just as likely, especially if we run into financial difficulty. Gibson will keep us stable. We'll never be the best team in the world but he'll keep us from disappearing into obscurity. I have been very critical of his decisions in the past but I still recognise he wants us to succeed and not just for financial reasons.

“ especially if we run into financial difficulty “. I’m sorry I found this line funny. How would you define financial difficulties bearing in mind the state currently of our finances?!
No longer being a going concern, administration, points deductions, sanctions, transfer embargos, no assets left to sell, stadium owned by another person/company, no guarantor of losses, no non-footballing company to offset losses, unpayable bill from HMRC etc.

No we haven’t. We were 2 games away from getting promoted to the PL in 2018.
We were miles off with that side and manager, yes it might have been two games but we didn’t have a shot over both semi finals. Not a chance we would have got promoted that year

Where do you see the financial issues stemming from and what do you think could be done to solve them?
