What is the best advice that you have been given?

When I was an apprentice fitter, I spent a rotation working with the plant electricians, and one of the old guys gave me a piece of advice about working with electrical systems, I never forgot, both at work and in life.

"Never put your finger where you wouldn't put your d1ck"

Good shout Borobarmy - I have another one on a similar theme that I was told and I always tell apprentices and still tell my Son. "Get your work in early and enjoy the rewards that come".

Relax on the straights to get ready for the bends.

Advice given to me by an American called Kenny Roberts when I was motorbike racing, apparently it’s common to hold your breath on the twisty bits and even forget to breath on the straights - which starves you of oxygen and performance suffers. So relax on the straights to get ready for the bends.

I took this also as a metaphor for life and have lived by it ever since. It’s got me through a lot.

There’s no such thing as good luck and bad luck . ‘Good’ luck is simply when preparation meets opportunity .

Always tried to abide by that

Always try and overpay on your mortgage, even if it starts off as only a small amount of spare cash left over at the end of the month pay it off as it comes straight off the borrowed lump sum. Over the years it can really help that borrowing to come down surprisingly quickly.
