another strike to replace Coburn going out on loan
another midfielder to replace Payero going out
another defender if McNair goes..
depending on how Smith and Dijksteel are.. possibly another right back
maybe a number 10 depending on our striker configuration.. basically if there's anything in the Chris Willock rumour
I don't see anyone in the squad that can do what Akpom did so we need a new one of them, even if Rogers/Gilbert/Silvera/Latte are supposed to be able to operate in that position. They will all mean we have to change the way we played with Akpom in the side.
We definitely need another striker. As it stands our 2nd choice is Crooks and he isn't a striker.
We need another CM. Ideally an upgrade on Howson as we transition towards him playing fewer games. We have nobody we can rely on in the squad currently and I don't think we'll see Barlaser or Payero become that player.
In our first choice 11 last season our biggest weakness was right back. Just because other areas of the team are weaker than they were it doesn't mean we still don't need an upgrade in that position. This is probably less of a priority.
We still don't know what we will get from the new, young players (and the returning ones). It could be that they all do very well and we have a fight for the starting positions all over the pitch. Hopefully that's the case but realistically it won't be which leaves the squad looking a lot weaker than last year.
