What irks you about modern society?

LITTER. It's everywhere.
We have succeeded with drink driving and cigarettes both are now seen as anti social. Virtually everybody sees them as wrong even those people who still do one or both of them.
So now is the time to have a concerted attack on this vile act. Surely most people are of the same opinion. It grates me to here people saying after their holidays "It was a lovely place it was so clean"
Action has to come from the top nothing else will get enough people motivated to the cause.....

So it's over to you Mr Rashford.

Litter used to be miles worse than it is now

People who dont appreciate life when they haven't any real hardship. Life is very short and you only get one go. So smile and get on with it

If you arent poor
arent being abused physically or emotionally.
Your family is in good nick.
In good physical health.

People on bikes who wave you past on country lanes. When you're paying my car insurance you can wave me past, until then keep your hands on the handle bars, don't fret I'll keep you safe.

........ oh yeah, the Gregg Wallace thread has reminded me. We have so thoroughly fecked over our manufacturing industry that making stuff has become an absolute novelty so that we now make TV programmes about it.

Lack of critical thinking. Probably always been an issue to a point but with the rise of the internet, particularly social media and "fake news" it's definitely far more noticeable than ever.

The number of people who just accept stuff they see at face value is staggering. Politics is obviously a big one but it's not just that. Even stuff like "incredible facts" or amazing "true stories" (that can be debunked in seconds with a quick Google) winds me up. Hundreds of comments with people enthusing about them. Very few seem to be people saying "seems pretty unlikely, might actually not be true given the source".

It's depressing and unfortunately has real world consequences as we're seeing in our politics.

I don't know if fact checking things you read online and applying critical thinking to information received is taught in schools to any real detail but it should be.

The use of the word 'unreal' to describe pretty mundane things or people

Football supporters of the big six on twitter going into meltdown whenever their team hasn't had a good half of football, and it escalating to 'crisis' if they lose. Absolute lightweights.

Football supporters of the other big six teams thinking that one poor result or season for a rival signals the end and the downward slide to obscurity.

Footballers feeling they have to apologise on social media for pretty mundane things

Actually, its just social media, isn't it?

That may or may not be the case 123 but it doesn't detract from the point that it is a huge problem. It's in the mindset of a significant percentage of the population that dropping their crap doesn't matter. We have to somehow change that to make Britain a better place to live in. Apart from the fact that it costs millions to clear up the litter in urban areas. In out of the way places it just stays there indefinitely.

Confrontation! There must be something in the food. People are so bloody aggressive. People cannot accept criticism of any sort, even when it’s designed to help them.
This is coupled with their inability to comport themselves in a reasonable manner.
Another thing the prevalence of cocaine in pubs, you can spot the weekend rock stars a mile off with their incredibly funny banter.
Also, I think that a lot of people act as though they are starting in their own reality TV show, larger than life characters.

Hard to know who has and hasn't been physically or emotionally abused at any point in their life though isn't it? They don't all wear badges about it.

I've come to the conclusion that social media (the internet as a whole) doesn't lend itself well to reasoned debate, generally speaking. It does sometimes, but far more often than not, polarisation occurs quite quickly, and people are jumping in front of bullets screaming 'why are you shooting at me?' People typing out 'you're wrong, admit it' based on nothing other than their subjective opinion can't see their own hypocrisy.

Having said that, I've no idea what 'arguments' or 'social debates' were like in the 60s and 70s. Maybe they were worse.

Baggage? To some its a dead weight around their neck and in some instances I would agree it would be hard not too.
Its easy to put others first and get on with whats happening rather than stand still and let it become consuming. In the 60s and 70s problems may have come from a different source but still problems all the same.

Depends what the aim of the game was for each of us or how perceive it, family and people come first.
When you've had the big cars and big houses etc and then find out that stuff doesn't really matter. Perhaps putting others first is more satisfying.

Ive found it more strange that some can be very selfish and thinkof only themselves and their minor problems.

This reminds me of an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where Larry David is walking down the street and as a woman passes him, she says "Smile!" After a quick look of bemusement, he turns round and shouts "Hey mind your own business, how 'bout that!"

On face value, we have no idea what anyone has gone through or is going through. We're all guilty of pre-judging people, I don't care what anyone says, but like atypical pointed out not everybody walks round displaying signs of their troubles. I only mention mine on here because I'm comfortable doing so, because I know most on here offer valuable support and advice. If you met me and had never been on this message board, I doubt you'd even know anything was wrong.

PS - I know you weren't having a dig, ticker 🙂

Nothing a matter with sharing a problem, its halved as they say. I often think of people who over indulge in things that cause others problems, and continue with it and know it. Most of the stuff we moan on about is trivial really. Im guilty of the same myself, its when you look at some others experiences it makes you feel fortunate.

The main thing that irks me is that everything has to be done as quick as possible.

Cars racing everywhere.
People hurrying about even though they are obviously only doing menial things.

also.......
Digging up roads and then not working on them for weeks on end
Junk mail
Cold callers
Scamming
The destruction of things like trees, who I`ll blame on kids.

You're basically describing the traditional 'stiff upper lip' thing that Britain is (or was) 'famous' for. The problem with that approach is that it effectively entails burying one's skeletons in one's closet, and it simply doesn't work for many people. Society has moved on and there is no need to do it anymore, now we understand so much more about the human mind.

Stiff upper lip, well I think that`s a fair comment, but depends on the weight of the burden I suppose.
Everyone has a different threshold, some things cant be put right, other things can be overcome, and other things aren`t the mountains they are made out.

Is your view is there doesn't have to be a strong or big reason.? and is that the way society views thing in general now?

Yes people by cars with all mods & cons, engine turns off at traffic lights etc then sit with their foot on the brake, that alone should be an instant fine, even points, total stupidity
Some cars with an automatic 'electric handbrake' put the brake lights on without any input from the driver, mine for example. I suppose it is a mod con.
