Doesn't matter how many murals you paint. Roland was born in Birmingham and formed the FYC in Birmingham in 1978 with 2 of the members of The Beat who were also from Birmingham.
Roland did live in Hull for a while when he was 11 yrs old.
Big fan of the FYC .
Also a big fan of Hull. Only ever went for the footy against us. Then my son lived there for a while after leaving uni. Worked for a company called Reckett Benckiser (not sure of spelling). Was quite suprised by the city centre and surrounding areas.
 
1st met Roland when he was in a Hull band called The Akrillikz (or similiar)

he came to the rock garden a few times as a punter, The Boro Skins looked after him.....he then was poached to join the FYC....a Brum outfit.

best night i had with him was at Bridlington with The Clash and The Specials supporting...man was a Hero.

I’m not sure they did, I heard that Heaton was offering the keyboard player a fortune…and free booze…

And how much has he paid this Rianne Downey to revitalise his concerts?

I’ll be seeing him in Newcastle in October 👍

He's also known for probably not being on Paul McCartney's Christmas card list. Hewson was hired by Phil Spector to do the string arrangements on The Long And Winding Road that Macca hated so much (though Hewson did work on some other Apple projects later).

What year - anyone? - was it that some genius, probably M*rk P*ge decided to put on half time "entertainment" at the Riverside?

The only one I remember was The Wilsons, in the slashing rain and cold, coming on and getting booed off after a couple of songs. I expect we were losing at the time.

Always puzzled me that The Boro Dance Troupe didn't generate greater crowd hostility. Possibly the spell of profound despair they cast left insufficient will or oxygen for booing.
 
Disciples of Wigwam.

Saw them live in late '89 early 90. Took about three hours to set up the lights. Geat gig though. Shrug played too as I recall.
 
Space Raiders were from Boro too. They released a single on Norman Cook's Skint Records, and it had "Up the Boro" etched in the run-out groove.
