What has happened to Adi Dem?

My view is that we became such a basket case that he’s exactly what we needed. He never would have been someone I would have chosen to be our manager but actually I was wrong about him. He’s really likeable, he clearly has the players with him and actually the football isn’t what I expected. It’s a lot better given the tools at his disposal. To turn the dogs dinner that Woodgate presided over into a solid team shouldn’t be under estimated.

👍👍

All we need now is Indeedido to come along and agree with you Adi

Oh I see he's already liked one of your posts, I guess that counts....some things never change o_O

in an ideal world we would be allowed back on mass, and Warnock would get the welcome/thanks from the fans for last seasons rescue, and the players who seemed petrified at times at home will respond and play with freedom and confidence. To win 4 of the last 5 away games to stay up while still getting stuffed at home was unreal.
Happily the away form has been maintained in general and the home form is starting to come back lets hope for a good showing tomorrow.
Personally hate the way personal abuse is dished out on these sites mainly because someone has a different viewpoint. It would be sad if everyone all thought the game should be played the same way, and coaches sent them out to play the same way

Don't hold your breath waiting for me to agree with one of yours old fruit.
Adi and I have disagreed on some things, but our views are very consistent on the football and more so now about the club. The board is better for him posting, as with a lot of others.
It is healthy to debate and disagree Norbert, but it is equally important to agree and acknowledge. Give it a go old one eye.

couldn't agree more Adi. The appointment of Woodgate was the single worst appointment I've ever seen. It was obvious to even the most die hard of fans and its set us back a long long way. I take no pleasure at all in pointing this out before during and after his tenure. I never thought I'd want Warnock at the club but thak god he's here right now.

I still think Robson was the worst manager in recent history. He had a huge budget and got us relegated and he did this with Juninho, ravanelli and Emerson in the squad

I would still say Southgate was the worst appointment. Just reached a European final and were in that group of clubs challenging the big boys, we had our pick of top coaches and chose the club captain who had no qualifications and asked him to manage big ego players he had been playing alongside the previous season.

Southgate was inexperienced and was asked to oversea a squad rebuild with lots of decisions made on his behalf. Most experienced managers would have struggled. He is doing well with England which is probably a better mark of his ability.

You could make a passionate case for monk or pulis. Both complete and utter disasters.
Horrendously bad individually, but in tandem...
And then the 3 card trick with the detailed search for Village.
It really has been spectacular, until the old wizard arrived earlier this year.

We weren't in the group challenging the big boys though. The season before we finished 14th!. We got extremely lucky in 2 cup games by having 4 strikers on the pitch. The wage budget was out of control and clearly Gibson was not going to continue down that line, hence why we couldn't get a top manager in. Mclaren spent £55 million in his time at boro and recouped £5 million. Goes to show during that period we were not interested in anything but spend.. that came to half soon as he left

I'm not sure Pulis was "a disaster".

In terms of style, the football wasn't up to the standard we think we're entitled to and maybe he wasn't exactly Mr Personality, but overall he was a competent manager and we were mostly around the playoff positions with him in charge.

Southgate and, to some extent, Woodgate are not 100% to blame IMO because they should never have been appointed in the first place.

The truth is both Robson and McLaren each spent over £90m each (Robson slightly more over a longer period)
Robson recouped over £50m and McLaren just £9m. It was an era of spending, but was providing exciting and memorable times. It was also against a backdrop of rising media revenue.
Southgate's first 2 seasons saw the club commit £56m in fees and recoup £31m. It was hardly penny pinching.
The final season saw Gibson change, but still nett spend almost £4m; and then on relegation there was the fire sale that brought in £45m for Downing, Alves, Huth, Tuncay and Johnson.
Strachan was allowed to spend £5.4m of that on round one of the Jocks) and Southgate signed Yeates for £0.6m.Both loaned players that season to make squad numbers.
Strachan then sold O'Neil, Jones and Wheater for £7.6m and spent £6.5m on revisiting the Scottish tombola.

Strachan got some backing, but nothing at all like monk who spent everything raised in the 2017 sale at the tripe stall. And then Stupid tony did what he did with Bamford, Flint and Saville.

Hence why we should have had an experienced manager? I don't blame Southgate and he's proving himself with England now. It was a strange appointment at the time, most of the football world were surprised.

We qualified for the Uefa Cup thanks to our league position in 2004/5 and reached both the FA Cup Semi-Final and League Cup Quarter Finals in 2006. We were favourites to beat both Blackburn and West Ham in those games. The league position suffered in 2006 due to our cup commitments and injuries to key players.
