What happens when you die?

Not biologically of course, we're all (hopefully) familiar with that side of it. What's your personal belief? Do you think there's anything beyond the grave?

Science has pretty much poved that nothing happens, unfortunately. If there is a soul, science says that it must have some energy, and that energy could be interacted with. So far that has failed. It may be there are other types of energy that science is yet unfamiliar with and there has been a recent discovery of a 5th force in the universe. If that is upheld afte peer review it maybe that there are other forces that we haven't discoverred, so it is possible, but quite unlikely.

May the force be with you 👍

Yes I do, I don't know what though. I mentioned a few months back about the case of the Middlesbrough lad who claimed to be a reincarnation of a German bomber pilot. His claims all checked out to be true.
Maybe we go to another dimension, live again in a different time- I just believe that there is something and that death is not the end.
A couple of books I have read- "More lives than One" by Ian Stevenson and the "Scholes Experiment."- both made me think really hard.

That story you mention is very interesting - when you see the guy in question and the pilots pictures they are similar facial features. On the one hand I am with Laughings scientific explanation but there are stories like this and some others that make you think there has to be something going on!

There are other explanations for past life memories though, for example there are cerrtain flat worms that can ingest memories of anothe flat worm if fed it. There has long been a theory of racial memories.

There may be a memory component in DNA, foe example that we just don't understand.

I think that what constitutes a person is just a biological neural network and memory. We exist as data effectively, that carried in our own brains and that stored elsewhere, most notably in other peoples brains but also in other artefacts. When we die it's just like turning a computer off. I don't know if this view is good or depressing :)
What is nice is that we're all LITERALLY :) made of stardust and our constituent parts will be recycled as an ongoing part of The Universe, a kind of reincarnation in fact. That's my half scientific/half Buddhist way of seeing it o_O

When the big "Game Over" sign pops up it means .. literally .. Game Over .. your eyes open and you realise it's all been a simulation and in fact we're living 20,000 years in the future on the Planet Zob.

I've always found the simulation theory argument seductive .. mathematically it "makes sense" even if it doesn't in real life ..

I don't know. A part of me has come to think / hope that reality might have an ace up it's sleeve .. if we live in an infinite multiverse .. then out there there are an infinite number of versions of us .. may be an infinite number of versions of the consciousness that makes "me" me and when when one conscious experience ends then we "flip" into another and just carry on. We might all be dying every moment and flipping through the multiverse as we speak .. I wonder if there'll be one where Britt scores 50 in a season for us ...

Anyway, it's not a "belief" .. just .. you know ..

We could be a simulation on some kid from the future's sophisticated Sims game. Just need to hope his Mam doesn't unplug his computer when she does the hoovering 😮

Quite possibly Central- But there are other aspects of the Life after death debate. I remember driving past the back of my local newsagent one morning on the way home from work after finishing nightshift. I could see the bathroom light was on above the shop and that John, our newsagent was shaving. When I went for my paper that afternoon I was served by his sister. I told her I had seen John getting shaved that morning. Her other sister went absolutely ballistic with me calling me a liar. John had died the previous evening of a heart attack.
Not death but-In Asda in Thornaby 28 years ago my wife collapsed. She was taken to North Tees and I followed in our car because I had our 6 month old daughter with me.
In hospital my wife was put onto a trolley and rushed down the corridor with me following carrying the baby. Fortunately wife made a full recovery. She described watching me following the trolley as if she was above me. She could see herself on the trolley with a lot of nurses and doctors around her. She then told me that our daughter had dropped her bottle and that a nurse picked it up and gave it to me.. Flippin' 'eck- even I didn't remember that until she jogged my memory.

There is loads we can't explain that much is true. With 7 billion people on the planet there are always going to be coincidences, for example your wife may have dreamed and coincidentally it matched reality.

It's a huge question and billions believe there is something after life.
For those that say there no afterlife please answer me a question.

Where did it all start?

I believe there is something else, another dimension. Nothing religious. Conscience is a tricky thing to try and explain.

The big bang is the obvious answer, the next question is what was before the big bang. The scientific truth is energy cannot be created nor destroyed, therefore there has always been energy. If there has always been energy why not fundamental particles.

Randy curent biological thinking is that consciousness arises spontaneously in a sufficiently complex system. This means that as computers get more complex creating a conscious ai is only a matter of time.

Also when you think, you know it is happening in your head, you feel it there, like flexing a muscle, how?

I'm asking who or what started the Universe and consequently life.
It boggles my brain in saying it but there's a thought that the Universe has always existed .. always .. like .. no beginning .. it's just always been there .. either as different incarnations or as part of a wider multiverse .. we're so used to things having a beginning so the thought that maybe .. nah .. always been there .. is just something we .. certainly I .. can't get my head around.
