What do you dislike about Christmas?

You don't really know people do you?
Erm
I am a person
We have choices to make in life
Stop pretending we havent
When I didn’t have enough money to buy something then it was obvious to me I couldn’t have it
Just because my neighbours had it or the kids friends had it didn’t mean I had to have
In life we can’t have ever we want
We learn that as we grow up and we try and instill the same message to our children
Are you saying that’s not the right way to live your life?

Moan , moan, mosn.

I’ve worked it once, spent it alone once, spent it in hospital once and spent it with only one person once, the rest have been over 20 year cooking for 8-10 people, the rest when I was a kid.

I loved them all, special in their own way.

Xmas is a state of mind to me x

That's exactly the point I'm making, rightly or wrongly we're all taught and brought up differently.

And no, I'm not saying that that's the wrong way to live your life, I try not to judge, no one has give me permission to judge them, and I'd be the last one to want want that permission. (y)

I love this let’s not judge bollox
Of course we judge
If I see someone hurting others or robbing people or shop I’ll judge them
People need to take responsibility for their actions
Are you saying that any action is acceptable
If not then you are judging surely
Stop trying to be so holier than thou and get real

Like @Concrete Dreams i love Christmas. As I’ve got older, I have enjoyed the giving rather than the taking side of festivities. I really look forward to the Christmas events that I sing at, especially the service on Christmas Eve in our village church. It’s magical.

This year I have been amazed and dislike the fact that outside decorations were up not long after Bonfire Night. That’s just plain ridiculous.

What I dislike most of all is that my family are in Canada and spend it over there now. But FaceTime does partly offset that.

I’m more interested in what people did before Christmas was a thing, anyone remember?

Something about shoes and a long walk...

(Tips hat)

Love Christmas, always have.

Since I joined the RAF in 89 I’ve always been away from parents etc for Christmas but back for new year.

Married and family came along and it was always sent with family, guess that’s why Christmas is easier over here too.

I’ve had x2 northern hemisphere chistmases since we moved here and I honestly don’t miss them.

The weather here is great, walks on the beach, we still cook turkey but also have ham and a salmon. Salads mainly but also some cooked veg and pav for pud, the kids are not big Christmas pud fans anyways.

Probably my the thing I miss most is the early nights. It’s light til about 9.30 here and it’s a bit of a downer on the decorations/Christmas lights.

Other than that wouldn’t swap it at all.

The whole one-upmanship of Christmas on social media.

The best thing about it is spending time with family and friends.

I dislike people arguing about why other people don’t like Christmas as much as they do.
Yeah.

Most things in life can be polarising but people accept alternative opinions about a lot of it normally.

Why is it somehow “accepted”, specifically with Christmas, in society to criticise someone for not liking something you like?

I am not religious. So why would I love Christmas? I don’t have a huge extended family I only see once a year, so at Christmas I see the family I see every few weeks anyway. I see all my friends regularly throughout the year, so why would I love it more just because there’s a tree in the room? “Oh you Scrooge” - ok then, but I like Erdinger and anyone who doesn’t is obviously just a miserable Scrooge then. Why can’t people just like what they like?

I go along with it all for the kids, wife and Mam who all seem to love it, and I know it makes them happy, but to me personally it really is just another day.

I usually shut up shop (fugitively speaking) around the 23rd and don’t go back to work until the 4th (depending on where the weekend lands).

All my client’s businesses are closed. My daughters will be at home with me, mostly, we have meals booked and there’s time to read, pursue hobbies and just be off.

Contrast to my holiday in Sicily this summer, where my phone rang and rang, and any given weekend where anything can happen and it’s my one quiet family opportunity each year.

I don’t go crazy on gifts. I like cheap quirky things that will get a laugh. It’s not about money and status for me. It’s all about using the time.

Looking forward to it. I hope you all have a great holiday, whatever that looks like in your households. 🥳
