Flights from CV19 hotspots

Yes but we give everyone arriving a leaflet remember.

I mean it worked so well back in feb/March didn’t it.

No flights in and no flights out, simple.
Should have been this well over a month ago. I haven’t seen my very poorly father for nearly a month, this included a stay in hospital. He could have passed away alone, without his family. It’s a sacrifice we have to make at this time. But it’s a questionable one when you see flights coming in still and the hoards in London parks.

I am exactly the same. Luckily I live near my dad and I take him his milk every other day and do some of his shopping. Today he told me he was scared and due to social distancing, I couldn’t reassure him. Now we have flights coming in from Covid hotspots. 😡

I heard someone trying to explain the decision to still allow these flights and it went along the lines that these people are allowed to enter the UK and as we are in a stage of lockdown they would proceed to their abodes and blend in with the population and obey the existing rules. The alternative is trying to send these people who are entitled to come here, back to other countries.

I can see why people disagree with this reasoning, but there it is.

I get what you are saying Lottowyn, but it’s crazy reasoning. Say for example, 4 people flat share in London. 3 have been following all the guidelines religiously for the past few weeks and have avoided Covid 19 successfully. Then flat mate number 4 returns from New York and is unknowingly carrying it, or picks it up on the plane. All that good work by the other 3 flat mates undone, needlessly. To not even be quarantining incoming people seems crazy. I thought there was talk of hotels near Heathrow being used? Did that not materialise?

Edit - surely the alternative is just to quarantine them, rather than send them back to other countries?

We may have a legal responsability to repatriate, possibly, but a reciprocal agreement with other states, We'll keep yours, you keep ours, would have worked. Another option is to repatriate, but isolate and quarantine.

There has to be some reason why this is not happening, surely, otherwise it is just poor management of that aspect of the lockdown.

With recirculated air on a jet and limited toilets and touching surfaces, I can imagine if 1 person has the virus, by the time the flight is over, lots of people will have, potentially contracted the virus. This does not, of course, say anything about the risk the flight attendants are taking.

My friend arrived back from Mumbai yesterday after having been stuck in lockdown there for the last few weeks. I asked him about checks coming back into the UK and he said there were absolutely none. Arrived in the airport and just walked through as usual. Said the only difference was that the airport wasn't operating as usual in that all of the shops and bars etc weren't open.

Border force have been told they can’t wear masks either at airports as it gives the wrong impression to visitors apparently.
