Anyone read The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce? A bit like High Fidelity but with wider music genres. It’s a lovely read in these troubled times...
I have indeed!Just checked this out on Amazon, and see that she wrote The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry as well. Reminded me of what a lovely book that is if you haven't read it....
Erimus, if you are interested in a book on this subject, I can completely recommend John O'Farrell's An Utterly Impartial History of Britain (Or 2000 years of Upper Class Idiots in Charge). As you can guess from the title, it is a light hearted humorous read, which nonetheless covers all of the major events of British history from the arrival of the Romans to the end of the Second World War. It is a great read, and I use it constantly for reference; you can open it at any random page and there is an interesting story being told in a witty but factual style. It's a great bathroom book, too...Which author?

'Hallo Sausages' the title of the Ian Dury book ive started reading, is thus named because it was the last two words he wrote down before he passed away.
Spoiler Alert...Wilf....only joking, reading is one of life’s greatest pleasures and something that is a great escape from the pressures of everyday life, it’s amazing to think that Ambrose of Milan was canonised due to the miracle he could perform of silent reading, this was in 383AD before that everybody read aloud.
anyone read the George MacDonald Fraser books -Flashman (and the associated titles) ?
I read those 40 years go, most entertaining read
I was once on a train with an examiner friend of mine travelling from Kings Cross to York; a passenger opposite us was constantly on his mobile phone, while the two of us were reading. My friend - let’s call him Adrian - got completely frustrated so started reading his book out loud, complete with different voices for the dialogue. It was both horrifying and brilliant at the same time. Mobile phone man actually asked him to stop, completely missing the irony of the situation. I still chuckle about it to this day.Spoiler Alert...Wilf....only joking, reading is one of life’s greatest pleasures and something that is a great escape from the pressures of everyday life, it’s amazing to think that Ambrose of Milan was canonised due to the miracle he could perform of silent reading, this was in 383AD before that everybody read aloud.
