Couple of the go currently, Trust by Hernan Diaz (very good) and Nuclear War by Annie Jacobsen (very terrifying)

I think it talks about this guy in the book. Was a genuine hero. The book goes into some smaller detail about what the Japanese did but I think they did far worse things in other parts of the country, particularly northern China. Pure madness.

I'm a audiobook person over the last few years. Just started the final book in the The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series

brilliant series

I've just ordered "Shadow of the Wind" on this recommendation. Don't say nobody takes any notice of you. I'll let you know what I think when I get round to it.

Just finishing “Hooked” by Paul Merson. Honest account of his football career including his addictions to drink drugs and gambling. Mentions his time at Boro living in a house at Hutton Rudby with Paul Gascogne

There was some very strange things going on and a lot of which weren’t exactly what they seemed, or were reported. A lot of people knew Manson and later reputations had to be protected.

Another one for the Ken Follett trilogy,read first two and about to start the third. Didn't think it would be my cup of tea tbh, but fair play to the author,brilliant fiction set in olden times.

Literally just finished Berlin Finale by Heinz Rein. Fictionalised account of the Battle of Berlin, published in 1946 so a contemporary account really. Absolutely harrowing. Just started John Cooper Clarke's autobiography, which I'm expecting to be a change of gear, but you never know.

Covers what it was like on a Corvette (smallest ship of the R/N) during the Battle of the Atlantic - you get the know the lives of the officers and commander and how they were taken to Hell and back for 5 and half years). "Das Boot" on the surface.

That’s the one. Unbelievable story and no idea how he escaped death from the Nazis or the Japanese.

Which one? There seems to be a few and this sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Fiction wise I'm just about to start the 3rd of the Danny Ryan Don Winslow trilogy although it doesn't compare to his Cartel trilogy. They were absolutely excellent.

Just finishing 'Sex, Brown Ale And Rhythm & Blues: The Life That Gave Birth To The Animals' by George Pearson. A surprisingly engaging and entertaining read, giving a picture of what life was like for young northern folk at the turn of the 60s. The author, an inside member of the Animals' circle does a really good job. I was drawn in and was never a fan of the band.
