I'm into Star Of The Sea by Joseph O'Connor. Brilliantly written and so far a stark reminder of how the English upper classes have treated the poor and uneducated, whenever they have had the opportunity, and I know it goes on to wider horizons yet. I'm only a quarter into the journey and am gripped.

A crafty cigarette: Tales of a teenage mod: Foreword by John Cooper Clarke.
It tells the story of a teenager growing up in the 70’s discovering a band that is new to him which leads him to becoming a mod. Takes me back.

Unforgiving Destiny - The Relentless Pursuit of a Black Marketeer - David McMillan

Amazing life-story,superbly written by the man himself.

The Gates of Athens by Conn Iggulden. Love a bit of historical fiction, not as dry as a non-fiction history book and you still learn stuff. Igguldon is great at it, his Genghis Khan series is brilliant.

Probably about halfway through the Jack Reacher series of books by Lee Child. A bit of escapism for me.

Tend to break things up with the odd Dan Brown or John Grisham.

I’m reading a book about Oasis’ demise around the turn of the millennium, called “Where Did It All Go Wrong”.

A friend of mine bought me a book titled Son who follows his father in to Auschwitz, amazing true story
Gustav (father) & Fritz (son) Kleinmann are an ordinary Austrian Jewish family when the Nazis come for them. Sent to Buchenwald concentration camp in 1939 they survive three years of murderous brutality. Then Gustav is ordered to Auschwitz. Fritz, desperate not to lose his beloved father, insists he must go too, very moving, which follows not just their story but of the whole family

SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome by Mary Beard - think she's trying to be too clever in her writing style and I'm not finding it that readable which is a shame.

Just finished "The King " , Ali's biography wonderfully written by a Pulitzer prizewinner who's name escapes me.Excellent .
( finally) started the Handmaidens Tale .

I'm reading Mark Lanegans biography (screaming trees singer and guest on countless Others)
Cracking so far 👍

I’m on The Farther Corner as well just now, the wife got me it for my birthday. As usual for Harry Pearson it’s a very entertaining and easy read but I didn’t realise until reading the book what a difficult time he has had personally over the last few years. You tend to assume these famous writers have a great life but just not necessarily the case.

After the Auschwitz book I'm now starting for the 2nd time, 'The story of Britain', too much information to take in so have to read again, decent read mind
