What are the first things you remember seeing on the telly?

That is actually true for me - although it was a black and white test screen. I lived next door to the rear delivery door of a Rediffusion depot that fronted Newport Road - this was back in the early 50s. One of the kinder warehouse men would put on a TV that sat at the bottom of the steps and we kids would sit and watch it. Of course there were no daytime programmes then, so this is what we watched.

We got a b/w TV in '58 and the Lone Ranger was the first thing I remember watching.

Dr Who (William Hartnell) and hiding behind the sofa, Black and White daleks were much scarier than the new ones (and I would only have been around 4 year old).

Watch with Mother for me too - My Mum said it shut me up for 15 minutes and calmed me down - she was desperate for 1.30pm.

I think Pogles Wood was my favourite when I was very small.

I liked all the Anderson's stuff when I was about 6 and 7 - Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlett, Joe 90, Stingray

The Cybermen scared me on Dr Who with Patrick Troughton.

Loved the intro to Skippy when it arrived on British TV and allowed me to skip and bounce off the furniture.

Me too, even the theme music was scary, which was so ahead of it's time. There was a great documentary a few years ago about the first episode

That's set me off...

Watched Pipkins (weird Brummy Rabbit) and the Whirlybirds.
Champion the Wonderhorse, too.
Skippy and Lassie.
The Banana splits with the Arabian Knights and H R Pufnstuf
Fingermouse
Mary Mungo and Midge
Bagpuss
Chigley, Trumpton, Camberwick Green (very tidy guitar playing throughout those)
Joe 90, Stingray and Captain Scarlet.

Throughout the six weeks holiday, endless Robinson Crusoe (B&W), and The Flashing Blade, which I never saw the final episode of, is there ever was one!

But the very earliest are Pinky and Perky, Hector's House, or Andy Pandy. All awful, looking back.

Well definitely the first thing I ever remember watching was Churchills funeral in 1965. I was 5 years old and remember the boat along the Thames and then his coffin put on the train to go to his final resting place. Vivid first memory.

Then the 1966 FA Cup Final Everton v Sheff Wednesday. The guy who ran on the pitch and was rugby tackled by a couple of coppers. Sheff Wed going 2 up before Mike Trebilcock led the fight back.

And then of course the World Cup Final. As a 6 year old then getting very nervous going into the last minute and then it happened. Something that could have had a huge traumatic effect on my whole life. Wolfgang Weber equalised in the 90th minute to seemingly snatch the world cup away. I balled my eyes out and didnt emerge from my sulk until the Russian linesman signalled a goal for Geoff Hursts bar breaking swivel shot.

Yes talking of Anderson childrens supermarrionation I remember Supercar first then Fireball XL5 before Stingray then Thunderbirds took over. I remember the Milky Bar Kid ads and all that chocolate in the treasure chests.

I also remember a programme at childrens hour called The Pied Piper. It was an American show I think.
