What’s your comment when squared up with a walker

A bit off the coronavirus topic, but in regards to walking in general.

I do lots of walking and have done for years, in the spring & summer its excellent as I've got Eston hills out the back so up and down there, great stuff.

My problem is in the winter when I walk about 4 miles on pavements, so I set off from home walk 2 miles then come back. This is fine for a circular route but I like to walk from Eston along the cycle path past Lazenby and towards Wilton Village and the golf course. I get to 2 miles then need to turn round and come back.

This is where the problems start, when I get to my 2 mile marker If someone is walking towards me, I can't just turn round in front of them or they'll think I'm mad or at least a bit odd. So I have to walk past them, I can't turn round after Ive past them or they'll think I'm following them! So I have to walk at least a couple of hundred yards further to give them chance to 'get away'. I can then safely turn around and make my way home. Unless, someone else is now walking towards me and I have to go through the whole process again!

One night I set off for my 4 mile walk and returned home 2 1/2 hours later after walking 9 miles because of this dilemma!!!!!!!!

BTW - The same applies when someone is walking behind you, you can't just turn around . . . . . .

Didn't realise how hard this walking thing is :D
When I need to turn around and someone is looking then I just get my phone out, stare at it a for a bit and then make a sort of tutting noise and turn round urgently as if I have to hurry back. Makes me feel less embarrassed anyway!

For reasons I know not there are a lot of cyclists who use the pavements here. Always been the case.
We have the absurd situation where my wife and I will be on the road to socially distance from the cyclists on the pavement.
