What’s going wrong?

widely covered in every thread about the topic that he was persuaded last season to give us one more season, if we didn’t sell him this season he would be in final year and we’d get far less, and have an unhappy player.
I'm not sure this was the case. That way we would have likely known a year in advance that he would be off out the door, so you would think we would have had a list of viable targets to replace him, and probably held preliminary discussions with clubs, and maybe even the players.

If we knew we were going to take £10m, then we should have been practically certain that someone would meet that price, so we needed a replacement with equal certainty. I don't think we even had any bids mentioned in the media?

I can't imagine the plan was to know Tav was leaving, and that we were going to replace him with Mowatt, and not suffer major consequences. Can't imagine Wilder would have been all that thrilled with that either.

I think they probably just bid £5m, and then because we got them up to £10m we thought we were getting a good price, where as in reality they had our pants down, and the club had Wilders pants down by not replacing him.

Sounds sensible stuff - we saw with Ramirez what can happen when you hang onto to someone and they want to go and feel serious offers are coming in for them. So it was critical we got someone in the style of Tav say from Division 1 or Championship or similar standard league. OK they may not have been as good, but combined with an improved LWB in Giles we could have being just as effective down the left. Dropping Giles has made the situation worse as we saw at Coventry and Millwall.

I think it all goes back to Garry Monk
Steve Gibson was made to look a fool by that man.
Garry Monk spent millions to make the team worse than when he started.
A lot of people got very rich who didn't really deserve to.
So I think our chairman has drawn a line and said never again.
Who can blame him.
