Wet leg

New choon from Wet Leg dropped a few hours ago, and it's...

...just as insanely catchy as their other stuff (love the video too)

I like them, but I still struggle to get my head around how they are where they are.

They are a duo from the Isle of Wight.

If any of you saw Plastic Mermaids live prior to lockdown, you may have seen one of the girls, Rhian Teasdale sing 'backing' vocals on a couple of songs of theirs, usually as the finale.

I've put 'backing' in inverted comma's because anyone who ever saw them will testify that, as excellent as Plastic Mermaids are, when she sang it was a jaw dropping moment. She has an amazing operatic soprano voice. It was always funny watching a row of people watching this for the first time as, just as I did, their eyes pop wide and their mouths just fall open.

I also saw Rhian do some solo stuff. I was expecting opera therefore. Instead I got some, frankly, dull boring arty hippie folk rubbish played on a keyboard.

So 3 minute indie guitar punk rock is not what I expected, nor did I expect their rise to be quite so meteoric.

Took me back to John Peel's pre-punk Saturday afernoon show. The singer was a bit 'Cilla Black does Wagner', but I guess that can be fixed in the studio.
