Well said Mr Policeman, cut poverty and you will cut crime

It is obvious but the Tories seem to WANT people to be poor. There is a lack of jobs and opportunities (so much for the Tories being good with the economy) and the derisable levels of help from the state when someone really needs help is almost non existent. It is no wonder people turn to crime.

Being far harsher on drug dealers would also help. Cause massive misery on society through addiction, the knock on effect on families of those affected, and associated crime to pay for drugs.

How about , punish wrongdoers , cut crime?
How about- not having the crime in the first place? And to do this you need to find out what caused the crime-If there are no jobs, no opportunities, no way to earn money, nothing to aspire to, no help from the government except a big stick.

That's too hard for many to understand, they'd rather look at punishment which has proven time and time again to be unsuccessful.

Some people just need to be locked up so the decent people in society do not become victims of crime. It also acts as punishment to the offender who made the DECISION to commit said crime for their own selfish benefit.

The judicial system in this country - which was in any case set up to protect wealth and power - has never worked. Locking people away in poor conditions and then releasing them solves nothing. They come out and reoffend because they have nothing else to aspire to. As has been stated already here though, promises of tougher sentences attract voters. At least they do in this country, the voters having proved time and again the depth and breadth of their critical thinking.

Totally agree Tallywacker. But do you not think it would be good to find out WHY people break the law. If Dominic Cummins, and others can break the law without repercussion, why can't anyone else. Is it because they are rich and have connections. Is the law supposed to apply to all equally. Or does it only apply to poor people?

Some crap on this thread, showing a total lack of any kind of understanding whatsoever. What they do demonstrate is the ability to look down on someone else.

If we are really going to be tough on crime, why aren't we locking up Johnson and his cabinet? 150,000 dead and almost 50 billion stolen from you and I.

If people could eat in a decent home, cloth their children, buy a school uniform and shoes when it was required, it would reduce crime massively.

Mirderers, rapists and peodophiles, a different subject.

If I had to steal to feed my family, you bet your bottom dollar I would do just that.

Drugs... It's a diversion, legalise them all, tax them and be realistic about winning that particular battle.
