Just going down a few Wikipedia rabbit holes, as you do, and came across this. Never knew he was brought up in Nunthorpe and went to Friends School.

Yeah, he was talked about at school by a lot of the elderly staff. A load of us boarders used to walk past his picture in Richardson Hall by the secretarial office, not a clue who he was

Peter Gilmore immortalised in Carry on royalty for his line to Barbara Windsor in Carry on Doctor.


Barbara Windsor spots Gilmore who is munching into a pear.

She says: "Oh what a lovely looking pear."

He says: "You took the words right out of my mouth."


Also loved him in The Onedin Line.

I have a tribute picture to this from when I visited Maidenhead Town Hall. It was often used for the exterior shots of a hospital or university in the Carry On and Doctor films.

Nunthorpe was a very small village when he was living there.
