Well edited then and now photos of Grangetown.

Great video that I am going to share it to my parents. My dad lived in Tennyson Ave and my mam Kingsley Road. My grandmother and mother both worked in Coopers bakery opposite The Magnet. Sure my parents will recognise loads of faces in them videos.

My mother lived in Cresswell Road until she was married in 1956. Remember visiting my nana there when I was a kid. There was a small shop at the end where Cresswell Road met the Trunkie. I always remember that the roundabout at the Magnet had a set of gates in the middle that could be opened up to allow large vehicles straight through presumably to accommodate abnormal loads for the development of Lackenby and Wilton after the war.

I do remember in the early 70s a large vessel going through the gates on its way to Wilton.

I seem to remember this being a big Gazette photospread, similar to a state visit.
You can see the road through the roundabout and gates on this aerial photo from 1958. No idea why but as a kid the gates always caught my attention, I've always been a bit weird like that.😊

On earlier photos (late 40s/early 50s) it looks like there were no gates so it was the original 'throughabout' a la the A66. There's nowt new.

Where is that haunting music towards the end from, I recognise it well but can’t name artist or song?

Are there any pubs still around in Grangetown?
There’s no pubs left in either Grangetown or South Bank as we know pubs.

St Mary’s Social Club still exists in Grangetown and there’s St Peter’s Social Club in South Bank.

There is also The Albion in South Bank that was also a social club. This is very popular with away supporters going for a pint before the game. Plenty of parking outside for the coaches.

Love these montages. Brilliantly done.

Sad though, isn’t it?

Even at its height it wasn’t great for the families living there.
