Well Done Ben

Or it might have been another Orr of the travel infrastructure that got the treasury jobs brought to Darlington.

The Treasury will be interested in transport links into central London. The quickest, most convenient and cost effective method of travelling from Darlington to Whitehall is via the East Coast main line.

The airport won’t have played any part in the decision.

None. QED.
The airport has always lost money and that is only likely to continue.
Who knows about the STDC site,
The Freeport will siphon jobs away from other areas, so there will be a gain for the area, but not for the country,.
So the situation was the same/ better before Houchen with one flight a day to Amsterdam or Aberdeen from the DTVA ghost town? Or with the STDC site a rotting slagheap with no future path or investment?
Jobs have to be located in one place or another, so your last point is academic.

So where are these new jobs?

YOU can only hop

Bill Sykes, thanks for your strange response.

I appreciate you must be a Tory boy but I notice this Ben Houchen character has already started to deny that money has only come to Teesside because he is a Tory.

Why has he said that?

People are very much blackmailed though vote tory so you get investment isn't the way politics should be conducted. If Labour was in government the area would see alot more investment than what Ben is providing. But people don't want us to become a country where mental health national happiness is above the economy like in NewZelamd, Denmark and Finland. Where progressive left politicies are bringing massive benefits for all in society and everyone is enjoying life. People in this country seem to just want to struggle on don't want change

I don’t find him likeable, I think he was on best behaviour when he first got elected but I’ve noticed recently underlying a Tory arrogance coming through when I see him on the telly.

He is another one who saw the window of opportunity with the airport and access to central government money and wriggled through it.

It will all end in tears, give it time.
I wouldn’t be surprised if next time round he runs as an independent (if possible). If the toxicity around the Tories starts to stick he’d be strong enough to stand alone.

Of course an airport will play a part in getting departments to relocate. Whether these departments use it is another thing but you need transport in place.

The next few years will be interesting for the tories as they've put all their eggs in the '20,000 well paid jobs' basket, if they don't deliver on this then they'll surely have to go.

Mike Ghandi, another who loves a camera in his face doesn't help by promoting the 2 candidates to all the single 'yummy mummys' who follow him religiously who now thing Ben has done wonders for the area

122,000 people disagree with you 😂❌
But that doesn't mean he's wrong? Millions of people thought Hitler was the bees knees , no iam not compering him to Hitler merely suggesting popularity doesn't mean your right, honorable and trustworthy.
He won, we are stuck with him so iam happy to give him a fair chance

Re-writing history?

The Blair government was easily the best in my lifetime with massive spending across the country on educational facilities, hospitals and a very high rate of employment in a good business environment which benefitted everybody.

The country was at ease with itself compared to this divided shambles we have now where you are blackmailed into voting Tory to get local investment.

Beat me to it. Under 'New Labour and Blair the country enjoyed its most positive, progressive and flourishing period in generations and remains so now.

The right wing media immediately bring up the gulf war when Blair is mentioned and that's conveniently stuck with a great many people.

Its quite the feat that has been pulled off though persuading vast swathes of the country to vote against their own interests. How anyone can look at this country right now and think it is better than at any time during those years of Labour government is beyond me. A combination of brainwashing, delusion, a compliant media and ineffective opposition.

It's not just the right wing, plenty of people to the left of the spectrum constantly hammer New Labour for not being true Labour and for the Iraq war.

But I would love to go back to that time.
The last decade has been a shambles of divisive issue after divisive issues.

Get me a time machine to tell Blair to stay the hell out of Iraq.
The future could have been so much better.

You would be wrong in every respect.
