We need an exceptional January transfer window

Weaknesses throughout the team need addressing that’s apparent. Without this? There’s a fair chance we could get relegated. I see the old trait of looking at clubs to lose who are around us is starting to be trotted out!

Should we be reliant on others “ being worse than us” to save our bacon?

The trouble is can we identify - and more importantly - get the right players in? I have to say recent experiences put a very large question mark against this happening.

Scott - on dealings to date- completely offers no confidence at all. In fact he is pretty useless.

So I hope Carrick is brought into player selections. I see Craig Dawson wants out at West Ham . I would say this would be a useful acquisition. Would he cost a few quid in wages? Absolutely. That’s a bullet we may have to bite to try and ensure we remain in this division

And you think anyone would offer him that?! I woke up pre season when I mentioned we were undercooked for the season. And as usual the optimists howled in protest. Leave you to judge how close to reality I was…….
Yeah he's really going to halve his salary, drop into the Championship, and move from London to Middlesbrough...

Is it April 1st ?
Wake Up !!!
Thanks 👍

I wouldn’t be relying on us having an exceptional transfer window in January. It’s generally harder to get players that you want then and we have seen how hard it was to make quality signings in the summer.

Dawson if memory recalls Strachan wanted him but we wouldn’t stump up the 700 K that Rochdale wanted. That seems a lifetime ago.

When did we last have a good January transfer window ? In fact has there ever been one ? They’re normally akin to a disaster with the usual panic buys five minutes before the window closes

Pre season? We looked decent!

Lots of players out of contract in the summer.. not the best situation to be in when we’re facing a relegation battle!

I think we need 5 or 6 in tbh.. young, cheap, free, experienced, leaders, prem ready.. in the january transfer window.

It’s a big ask when we struggled to bring in a defensive midfielder in the summer.

Surely this can’t have been the plan?

Zach Steffen -
Luke Daniels -

Darnel Fisher -

Tommy Smith -
Massimo Luongo -
Jonny Howson -
Alex Mowett -
Ryan Giles -

Chuba Akpom -
Duncan Watmore -
Rodrigo Muniz -

Hayden Hackney -
Steven Walker -

You will never be satisfied.

'exceptional' isnt something you can comprehend.

there will always be an angle for you to gripe against Middlesbrough FC. - It's what you do, season after season after season after season - transfer window before, during and after, year on year - its become far too predictably dull, laboriously painful to read, cliche after cliche of offal - you should move on.
That’s because the problems keep on recurring. Perhaps your ambition limits to us being third bottom and prime relegation candidates? Whatever floats your boat I guess.

January is not a good month to try and turn your season around when you don't have a pot to **** in and besides which the owner decides who we can and can't sign. Carrick will find this no different to Wilder and Warnock.

What happened to the £20 odd million we got in for Spence and Tav?

Whilst I think we will maybe try to bring one or two in come January I don't subscribe to the view that the team needs an overhaul.

The same team, more or less, pushed for the playoffs last season, so there's enough talent within it and certainly more than enough not to be a relation fight.

The talent and quality within the squad isn't the fundamental issue.

Well £6 Mill went on 'development' strikers when we already had Coburn and Kavanagh.
While we 'develop' them we might get relegated to League 1 😕
Marcus Forss wasn’t a Development striker for Brentford when they got promoted..

Matthew Hoppe playing and scoring in the Bundesliga suggests he is a level up on some of our younger talent as well.

£10m being dangled around for an unproven striker seems crazy when we were so light in midfield.
