We go up this season, what three players do you sign? What 3 do you sell?

We’d need to spend a lot more than £30 million to stay up and that money is an investment in these sorts of players

3 to sell Jones not prem league quality, McNair cash in, Dijksteel decent for player at this level but doesn’t fit current style and formation.

3 to buy Gyokeres, Giles and Archer

Buy:
Archer or Gyokeres
Jan Paul van Hecke
Anton Stach or Ardon Jashari

Honorable mentions
Steffen and Ramsey back on loan (Illias Chair if we can't get Ramsey)

Sell
Dijksteel, Bola, maybe Jones

Back out on loan
Hoppe, Coburn, Brynn

Sign the loannees and sell some of the fringe playes. I would be happy if we started the prem season with what we have now. We would finish bottom half, but I don't think we would get relegated. The bottom of the prem has some real dross in it.

Not sure why it has to be sign 3 and sell 3 as we all know it’s gonna be a lot more than that but I will play along anyways.

Sign
Giles
Ramsey
Welbeck - think he is an excellent player if he stays fit and will know Carrick. Premier league ready.

Sell
Dijksteel sadly
Coulson - recently signed a new deal but he’s not a premier league footballer
McNair to raise some cash, we would need another top centre back to come in too

SELL

Isiah Jones
Anfernee Dijksteel
Matt Crooks
Matt Clarke
Marc Bola

Buy

Michael Cooper
Ryan Giles
Jacob Greaves
Ivan llic
Viktor Gyokeres
+ several others for squad filling

LOAN
Cameron Archer
Aaron Ramsey
Fabien Centonze
+ others

I’d prefer to keep Paddy (as he can cover several positions if needs be) for now if we could extend his contract and agree to sell if he didn’t get much game time, but if not we’d have to sell to get something back.

Stach's a great shout, and for some reason not a nailed on pick at Mainz right now either.

Absolutely no idea why people are naming Liam Roberts to sell. Looked a very very capable keeper in the games I saw.

I still think he's destined to be number 1 here one day - although i think regardless of what league we are in next season, we'll try and get Steffen on a permanent.

More than happy with him as a backup.

No way is Liam Roberts gonna be our no 1. He’s just not good enough.

Yep and while he's ok as backup I think ideally we'd like to replace him with someone who is better with his feet so if Steffen does get injured/suspended it won't affect our style.

I don't think Roberts is anywhere near good enough at that part of his game. Probably be looking at a youngster from a prem side, or ideally one of our own (if good enough) who'll have been brought through an academy developing those skills.

No chance we get that Simons from PSV, he's going to go on to much bigger things.

Dean Henderson could be a possibility depending on what he ends up doing in the summer.

Yeah ditto on Simons, one of the brightest prospects in Europe. Can't see him coming here.

If we don't sign the loan players we would realistically be looking at 7-8 first teamers I think coming in (and probably some squad players too). Will be a massive overhaul.

Or, and I think this is more likely, we limit the incomings (and outgoings) improving a few key positions, knowing we're likely to drop back straight back out but with much deeper pockets going forward.

If we can re-sign Giles, Steffen, Archer and Ramsey on a mix of loans and permanents then I think we're only looking at around 3 1st team signings:
Central defensive midfielder, probably centre back, maybe right back or right attacking midfielder.
That would keep the churn to a minimum and focus on quality over quantity. I think Villa might sell Archer and might be willing to loan Ramsey for the season. Although there might be better options out there than Giles and Steffen, I think they're good enough for a first season in the Premier league and I'm pretty sure their clubs would happily sell them.

A 1st 11 of this feels like it has a good chance to survive in the Premier league. I think you need a left-sided CDM to cover for Giles. It's hard on Fry but I think you need an upgrade there with Fry stepping in for injuries and given a chance to prove himself. I'm not convinced by McGree on the right. It's another huge step up for Hackney: hopefully he can cut it.

Steffen
Smith/??? - CB - Lenihan - Giles
Hackney - CDM
McGree/??? - Akpom - Ramsey
Archer

It's sometimes quite hard to predict who'll step up to the premier League and who won't. Ricard being the most extreme example but in more recent seasons Forshaw looked possibly the most comfortable from the promotion season players.

Some players it just suits them better. Carrick will have a better idea than anyone but I'd expect the current front 4 to cope, particularly playing the style we do.

I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility we'd take Ramsey and Archer permanently depending on what business Villa do. However highly they rate them they're still unproven in the prem. They might be tempted to cash in for the right offer, particularly if they have bigger names in their sights.

Given we don't own Giles, Archer, or Ramsay, and they are key elements of our current side AND several other positions would need first team recruitment (GK, RB, CM) then we need to recruit 6 first team starters as a minimum.

These would be my first 3, because they are excellent, young, will get better, grow in value and provide great continuity and I think we can get them:
LB Giles
CF Archer
AM Ramsay.

The next would include
CF Gyokeres - because he is the real deal and would be great with Akpom.
CM Alex Scott from Bristol C.
CB I'd also have a nibble at Harry Souttar from Leicester if they go down, he is very good, fabulous distribution.
GK Henderson on loan.
I'd welcome Tavernier back as CM cover too.

(I wouldn't be looking to re-sign Steffen, Mowatt or Muniz at all).

I'm not mad keen to chase anyone we own in particular out of the door.
I'd keep Crooks, McNair, Bola and Dijksteel.
I'd only sell Jones for a good fee.

yes agreed on this. I think they would be more reluctant to let Ramsay go, but, he will have his playing ambitions and with Coutinho already a shoe in for that left wing spot his game time will be very limited for the next 2 years at villa. More likely another loan for him than buy him.

Archer, they've had enough of a look at him at prem and first team training level and never trusted him. He is more likely to be sold particularly as they will be looking for a big name CF this summer to take them forward a step. If we go up, he could be our Nicky Barmby signing, an England U21 and highly thought of young forward

This is unbelievable you have invented a scenario to slag players off who are doing a great job for us at the moment. We aren't even in the play offs yet and you've got us promoted and players sold off, great way to motivate the lads for the run in.
