We didnt turn up. Like at Burnley

Your looking in the wrong places for the reason we lost today
we didn't compete well in CM particularly for the first hour
we got ourselves caught high up the pitch a couple of times leaving ourselves susceptible to the direct attacks
Fry had a bit of a stinker, struggle to contain Stewart, was naive in pulling him
We failed to get quality balls to get on the ball facing forward in central positions, which in turn meant we didn't get good balls to Forss and McGree to work their back 4

bunch of reasons why we failed today and of course the penalty was a big issue, in that it was a free goal scoring opportunity they shouldn't have had, and the pen and red on Chuba wasn't given.

Exactly right! We grew into the game. Who knows what we might have done without that ridiculous set of decisions.
agreed.

But we should probably learn from what we can control rather than a ref we can't. We can be a bit smarter defensively, if you are going to grab, do it once, do it well outside the box then let go. Don't give a bad ref an option to make a poor decision.

If we are going to be that high up the pitch, then CBs have to have shoulder pointed back to our own goal ready to cover, don't be square on for the through ball.

Their defence is shocking though, real shame we couldn't put them under sustained pressure.
that highlighted for me that we are still short of a CM with a bit of top quality, and McGree and Forss are ok, but inconsistent in those wide roles. I'd like a real specialist at that winger role, a pacey direct option, who can carry the ball, and scare the opposition into pushing too high up the pitch.

Got to remember with most boro fans, we either win or we don’t turn up/are shiiite. There’s no middle ground and no accounting for the opposition.
agreed, they did the basics really well, competed and won it in midfield, got it forward to 3 dicky dancers, who ultimately did very little with it. The difference was that Stewart run in behind Fry. We didn't run in behind them at all, Crooks doesn't really have that in his locker. Hopefully we will start to see Archer in future to offer that.

Hardly touched him. Never a foul, he dived, he went down because he choose to not because of what Fry did. All irrelevant though, what's done is done.

Sunderland deserved the win. Stewart run us ragged. Shame for Sunderland he will be gone by next season.
Or even by the end of this month..................;)

It was a foul the pull on the bicept which occured about 15m from the box, and a dive about 4 seconds later.
I think if he had blown for a pull and then red carded then it would have been argued about but more accepted but Stewart’s dive for the penalty in itself was worthy of a yellow card.

Yes to give a red that far out, for a minor pull, where, to quote the commentators at the end "he needs to be stronger".....of course the commentators were talking about how Akpom needed to be stronger when he got flattened from behind not, how Stewart needed to be stronger from a minor pull on his arm.

There was no foul there. If that’s a foul then everything is a foul. If that’s a foul then we should have had one in the first half. It was nothing. Stewart dived. It’s cheating. But such is the modern game.

The game did highlight how far away we are though. Crooks up top, Forss on the right, only Howson and Hackney to choose from really in the centre. We need good players in.
