We’ve had the carrot now comes the stick - govt makes Not self isolating illegal

People who may have coronavirus will be required to self-isolate by law - with those who refuse facing fines of up to £10,000 in England.
Ministers are toughening up their stance by making the current guidance a legal requirement in a bid to try and prevent a second spike of COVID-19 ballooning across the UK and a potential second national lockdown.

About time. We've relied too much on people being decent and as shown above, the actions of one selfish person led to everyone suffering restrictions, let alone those who were infected as a result and could face major health issues.

£10000 seems extreme and if ever anybody is charged with it I would see less than 10 per cent actually paying it. Maybe a thousand is more realistic.

in addition I think £100 on the spot fines should be levied for those breaking the rule of six. I saw a group of 12 teenagers yesterday just hanging around. Some real implementation of fines would soon reduce this sort of behaviour. Have to start hitting people where it hurts I.e in the pocket especially when half the nation seems to lack common sense.

Tried to get a test, couldn’t, didn’t realise I had Covid etc etc.

Case dismissed.
This is the problem, too many people looking for a loop hole to get round self isolation instead of using their heads and keeping everyone safe. Like you point out, a good solicitor will have dismissed in no time.

It’s just a shame people can’t be responsible, then this awful government wouldn’t have to put such ridiculous rules/laws in place.

6 months ago national restrictions were put in place and far too many ignored them and continue to do so. That coupled with the reopening of pubs and the ‘eat out’ scheme has meant we are still unable to live normal lives.

I really want to be able to spend Christmas with my family this year. The way it’s going, I don’t know if that will be possible.

It applies if you’ve been told to isolate by track and trace, or who has tested positive. And it’s a £1000 fine, rising to up to £10000 for repeat offenders.

Many still can't get access to tests, that's a real problem, they're not copping out. There's so many different symptoms plus asymptomatic cases, who knows whether they have it or not without vigorous and regular testing.

It’s the perfect storm. People have had enough of the restrictions and shambles of a government. One minute they are putting more restrictions on people’s freedoms the next they are having to apologies or explain why testing is such a shambles. This comes at the same time as they are ending the furlough scheme and telling people they can’t mix with other households but have to go and sit in an office with loads of people for work. People are looking for loopholes because they are frustrated and annoyed. The harder they crackdown the more likely their will be civil unrest.

And we all know that's not going to happen - did you see the young lad who had been asked to go to Northern Ireland for a test?

Whilst I agree, there’s still no excuse for being irresponsible. Saying that you are frustrated and annoyed isn‘t justification for putting other people‘s lives at risk.

It's a shocking lack of responsibility at the top level for this to still be happening. Teessiders travelling to Bradford and Carlisle last week. You test positive and the first thing you have to do is travel, interaction with others almost immediately of necessity.

It's been with us for a long time now, the incompetents in government should be being fined £10k for forcing people to spread the disease.

If this board is reflective of social media in general then the government will be rubbing their hands in collective glee, back slaps all round for a job well done. They have succeeding in getting us to blame each other.

In a pandemic, in the absence of a vaccine, the 3 most important things are a robust track and trace system, a robust testing regime and a health service that can treat people as they become ill. The government are an abject failure on all three metrics.

Without going in to a legal system that allows a loving father to ignore the law, a parliament that ignore social distancing and let's also ignore a commerce system that allows for zero hour contracts and then asks people to isolate without the option of a test and is planning on ending furlough.

Anyone pointing the finger at the 20-29 year olds or people ignoring social distancing laws needs to take a long hard look at themselves. You are being led by the hand by a government most of you claim to despise. Shame on you.
