Warnock unhappy with the pitch

Warnock unhappy with the slippery surface says it will be poor for the rest of the season, so it can’t be just the rain, Traditionally we”ve always had a rep for good playing surfaces. I wonder what’s gone on.
Sometimes I wonder whether pitches are designed to look lush on tv but are like concrete underneath.

Makes a change from blaming the ref I suppose

I'm not 100% on ours but I think a lot of modern pitches are grown in a sand/soil/synthetic material mix to aid drainage and grow strong grass. I think I read somewhere ours has issues with roots detaching causing slips, in part due to having no time to renew it closed season.

I agree it’s slippy, I just wonder why it’s such a problem this season when it hasn’t been in the past. Ok we’ve had plenty of rain but that’s nothing new.

caesium, that makes sense to me, I bet it’s something like that, v interesting

Truncated break between seasons, I guess the groundsmen couldn't give it the usual treatment in the summer.

I've been moaning about the players slipping all season, I'd assumed it was just overwatering and poor boot choices, but that makes more sense.

We're not the only club having pitch issues this season, Leeds have an awful torn up pitch and are having to take measures to sort it.

Uncle Harry - the reason is likely because it is normally replaced every summer. They wait til the end of May, in case of play offs and then take all the grass off and reseed after doing work on the drainage etc. Last summer we were playing on it. So it is a second season playing on a one season pitch.
Am supposing there are problems at all grounds this season.

One of the TV games this week (can't remember which one) they were talking about a club (not a big club) replacing their pitch this summer at the cost of 2million quid !

I remember the ridicule by certain green posters when this issue was raised earlier in the season.

One of the traditional "home advantages" was that you knew the right studs to get grip on "your" pitch. If anything it has seemed to me that MORE of our players were slipping than oppo ones?

Should make them play on Man Ure's pitch in the 60's and 70's. Now that was a bad pitch.

Saw Warnock say they are going to train on it so players can see what type of boots are best. Shouldn't this have been done before now if its a known problem and not just an excuse deflecting from how we have played at home.

Not noticed many opposition players slipping but thats not to say it hasn't happened.

Have they checked out which boots seem to slip most. Is it the awful salmon coloured boots or the banana yellow ones.;):giggle:

Me and my mates have noticed it for years, certain areas of the pitch seem prone for players slipping especially the middle third.
