Both shockingly bad keepers. How the hell have we replaced one non keeper with another no2 reject.

I hate being negative but seriously I just don’t rate this lad at all.

Woeful isn’t he. We have a ready made keeper, who we have sent out on loan @ QOS. Coulson and wood would and should be in the first team too with all the injuries.

Spend plenty in other positions yet have once again ignored the main issue. The keeper must have cost us 15 points last season and this is going the same way. Randolph showed just how important a good keeper is

Been a big issue since Schwarzer really. Dimi and Randolph have been the only 2 I had confidence in over a prolonged period.

Im not counting short loan spells for Given etc. We have had some crap haven’t we?

I agree the defence starts with a strong foundation at the back and it clear that the defence don’t trust the keeper that why they are so on edge that why they make so many mistakes and that’s why they drop back so deep.

good teams are built on solid foundations we are built on sand.

It isn't the main issue. If you look at the teams that have been promoted to the Prem League, the top scorers are nearly always promoted. If there's any money, spend it on players who will contribute to the goals for column.

Goalies used to be important when it was 2 points for a win. Now a clean sheet isn't so important. Every time the team fails to score it's at least two points lost, and usually three.

Boro aren't trying to win the Champs League, just get promoted. You don't need an expensive goalie for that.

That’s true, I’m not expecting we go out and spend millions, but having a keeper as bad as this who can’t do the basics is throwing points away. Impossible to improve the defence with that keeper behind them. No wonder they look nervous

Not at fault for the goals, but almost gifted a goal by dropping the ball from a corner. You can’t ignore that just because it didn’t result in a goal

I'm not ignoring it, but as far as I can remember he's only been majorly at fault for a goal conceded in one game all season.
Against QPR.

Bettinelli was at fault for a goal every other game.

Lumley is the least of our troubles right now.

His mistakes lead to two goals against Blackpool as well

Regardless though he makes these basic mistakes every game, even if it hasnt cost us that much goals wise, its still unsettling the defence and causing pressure on us every time he misses a cross/drops the ball/spills a shot. Sooner or later has to cost us more than it already has. Goalkeeper is currently our weakest position and has been for two seasons now

Its fairly obvious to see why he has never been able to establish himself as a number one, he simply isnt good enough for the championship

How did his mistakes lead to either goal?

He had no chance from the goal from a free-kick that wasn't a free kick, and he had no chance from Grant Hall's own goal.
No fault on his part in either goal.

He made mistakes during the match, but none of those mistakes led to goals.

Lumley is a good keeper.
He cant do the job of keeper whilst also covering for an absent left-back / centre-back an right-back - who arent where they should be when the opposition attacks.
The midfield needed a kick up the arz.
Its a "team" game.
For one minute, dont believe replacing the stopper will fill the other missing holes.

Apologies it was just the second goal against Blackpool, watch the goal again and tell me Lumley is the least of our problems....

Edit - I mean the cup game not today

I'd excluded the cup game given the line-up bore very little resemblance to our usual 11, but yeah, I'll accept he should have done better with 1 goal in the cup 5 weeks ago.

Not sure why today has spurred the questions about him though.
