Votes Needed For Middlesbrough Music Project

Fantastic news. THEY WON

Jubilant musicians at a key Middlesbrough youth hub wept tears of joy after landing a major cash windfall thanks to votes from the public.

The myplace youth centre’s A Need For Music project put in a bid for £42,000 – and learned this week they’d been awarded the full amount.

The National Lottery People’s Projects funding – in partnership with ITV Tyne Tees – will help to inspire more young people with special educational needs and disabilities through music.

As the cheque was handed over at the Middlehaven hub, the young people broke into a rousing rendition of We Are The Champions.

Grassroots Music Leader Kaitlyn Kempen said: “Thank you to every single person who voted for us – it means the world to all of us.”

myplace Manager Tracey Smith said: “I am so pleased for the young people of myplace - this funding meant so much to them and will go a long way in enabling Grassroots music to continue supporting myplace.

“They were crying with happiness, I’ve never seen or heard such a jubilant group when they heard the news.

“Music has made such a difference to them and it is lovely to see their confidence grow each week through the power of music.

“I would like to thank the guys at Grassroots for all of the support they give to our young people.”
