Funny how we don't commemorate the actual end of WWII (i.e VJ day).
The allies celebrated Victory over Japan on 15th Au8gust 1945, although the Japanese did not sign the official document of surrender until 2nd September 1945.
The Americans, Australasia and the Far East place much more emphasis on what Truman called Victory over Japan Day. It was significant that the attack on Pearl Harbour signaled the official entry of the USA into WWII.

V.E Day signified the end of the 1000-year Reich [!] when Admiral Doenitz sent General Jodl to General Eisenhower in Rheim`s to settle terms for official surrender.
The death of the Reich meant a formal end to torture, barbarism and extermination of millions across Europe and beyond.
