Virgin Media/SKY help please

Every year I go through the whole pantomime of calling SKY when my contract expires and they ramp up my bill. I threaten to cancel, refuse their initial offer and wait for the retention department to contact me with a better deal.

My Dad is with Virgin and looking to get his bill down. Do they follow the same process as SKY or do they actually cancel if you threaten to cancel?

Thanks in advance!

Yes im with Virgin . Go through the same palaver every couple of years. This year was the first time they said ok when I said I was leaving. They gave me a date all services would stop.
I was begining to think I had messed up but the next day another team rang and gave me a much better offer which I took.

Cheers Blf.

I figured it would be the same kind of thing but wanted to make sure.

Virgin are quite aggressive in their retentions approach. It’s an absolute ball ache every year. Probably the same with Sky.

You should be able to do All your changes on line. They let you add services online but not reduce. Not right that.

I think we all go through this and wish they would just get there act together and charge everyone the same reasonable price. I have broadband with Virgin and the Tele with Sky. Over a year back, my tele bill went up from £47 to £95 for the tele only. I got in touch and told them I was unwilling to pay this and asked them to put the tele back under £50 and I would stay. After being told that they couldn't do this by three different departments I left and moved everything over to Virgin. After 3 weeks I received e-mail after e-mail and letter after letter offering me the tele from a high of £46 to a low of £36.

Why couldn't they just do this in the first place.

Unfortunately, I suspect because there are still plenty of people daft enough to pay full price or can’t be bothered to cancel.

Cheers Linny, Norman and Col.

I called on his behalf today and got it down from £102 to £71 but I removed the cinema package as my parents don't need that.

I didn't commit to anything and the guy said he'd hold that price for 10 days.

Given the opinion so far on here I'll likely go back to them and advise that we'll cancel and hopefully wait for the calls with further reductions.

As said above, the whole process is infuriating, but they must make a bomb out of so many people who don't call up.

Is broadband included in that price?

I pay £89 that's for .
Full tv including all Sky sports, BT sports . Sky movies ( but not sky atlantic which rankles a bit)
Top broadband speed
Home phone with all calls at all times.
My mobile sim with unlimited data, calls and texts.
They had put it up to £135 from £99 so I was happy to get sky movies added and £10 reduction but annoyed that I had to go through it all again.
Also includes TiVo and a sky box upstairs too.

For £18pm more than what they are offering my Dad, that looks like a decent deal you got there!

I was happy but when he threw the mobile sim in as well I cracked and accepted 😁
I wish there was a set price as low as possible for new and old customers. They dont seem to value any loyalty and as I said I hate this negotiating every year.

Same. At least you're only doing it for yourself, not for yourself and your old man! Haha!

That sounds like it is with Virgin.

We've just swapped back to Sky and lost BT Sport but gained Sky Atlantic - I like the latter better and haven't watched any of the sports channels since the start of lockdown.
