Virgin Media off all afternoon accross Teesside

We don't have access to virgin up here, but Zoomm have sent letters out and are doing door knocking informing people that full fibre from the cabinet to homes is coming later this year.
Hopefully soon Virgin won't have a monopoly on full fibre in other areas.

Having an alternate provider doesn't shield you against issues. I am loving youfibre with gigabit internet up & down for £40, but they've had 1 night of downtime for me and 2 hard reboots requires after "system upgrades" in 2 months - luckily this could be done remotely but both times required my static ip address to be reassigned manually by them which took a few hours. We were on holiday at the time so had to call them (home automation, security, cctv, media server etc all relies on it).

As the new providers are expanding so quick they're probably even more prone to it

"However some parts of Teesside have retained a service, with residents in TS7, which covers Marton and Nunthorpe, reporting a normal service."

Hmm my was terrible yesterday. speed tests normal but browsing just awful. I am going to reset my router and other hubs today, which will be a right ball ache

Is the static IP included in the £40

I meant there is going to be more choice really.
Faster speeds in outlying villages is great news for businesses, those who work from home and of course for entertainment purposes.

Virgin have been having my eyes out for years. Tried several times to threaten to leave to bring the cost down but they have never budged.
However, I've been trialing YouFIBRE for the last 3 weeks and it's been spot on so yesterday I entered into an 18 month contract with them.
800Mbs faster than virgin, with a Mesh system and I'm paying £20 a month less. (That's after 6 months free!)

I took great pleasure in calling Virgin to leave.

Only thing I don't like is the router has no web interface it's all app, and there is no vpn option in the router so to use one at connection level you have to use it in bridge mode

They have been unreal for me .. give me a decent contract paid half price for 18 months at £18 quid .. and few other perks with reducing phone contract etc

Then they sent me a £100 Amazon voucher a month ago that I didn't know was part of the deal

Not a problem so far and the staff who installed were sound, even fixed a cupboard for me in corner of room to put the modem in :ROFLMAO:

I didn't notice any outage yesterday, first I'd heard of it

So what infrastructure does this YouFIBRE company have or use? They surely can't have their own?
They do. Depending on areas they pull cables through existing ducting (Virgin taken similar approach in our street, so youfibre and Virgin using the open reach ducts in Ingleby for example) although some areas get new dig or telegraph poles.

They've got their own cabinets that lead to the existing ducting.

Hence they can offer 1000 up / 1000 down connections rather than the usual 20/50mb upload speeds

Technically Youfibre is the isp, Netomnia is the network

What fragrance said....
In Billog we have fibre cables on the existing telegraph poles and some new poles have been installed.

I've been doing a load of gaming (CoD) and not had any issues not having a static ip address. One thing I have had to do is to open a port for my laptop each time I connect as I connect using a company VPN - which wont connect without a designated port. No drama though.
I use a personal VPN when watching *cough footie on a saturday afternoon. This is just an app on my firestick or chromebook.
