Apparently a £73m bid from Chelsea has been rejected with Arsenal also interested.
He's got €100 mill release clause tooApparently a £73m bid from Chelsea has been rejected with Arsenal also interested.
Like he's magically become 4 times better from playing in the Championship to the Spanish league. Mind boggles at transfer fees.
It's like PL clubs have to sign players from established European clubs in order to appease fans / shareholders / owners / dodgy Oligarchs etc.Portuguese league.
It's an odd one, because it's arguable whether it's even a step-up in quality.
I still don't understand why no Premier League teams were in for him, he was brilliant in the Championship and his fee wasn't particularly huge for the modern game.
I don't think "waste of money" is a fair comment. And, a number of people on here didn’t want him thinking he’d have been a waste of money.
dear me and to think we could have had him for 20 mill ... isnt hindsight wonderful
I think Coventry from day one were pretty firm in wanting £20m + for him. Not sure whether Boro even put a bid in for him, or whether they asked how much, realised we couldn't afford him......then Wilder threw his toys under the bus.I thought they wanted £20m but we refused to pay it (either we didn't have it, or we didn't want to risk that sort of money on one player)?
and this was why Wilder threw his toys out the pram and moaned
We could have signed him for £15m the summer before last.
It was a no brainer to do it.
Had he signed we would have gone up and in Gyokeres and Akpom had enough to stay up.
And then the budget to survive an thrive.
He was and is obvious quality.
We'd have still had Wilder in charge...Had he signed we would have gone up
