Ventilators

Work for an Electronics Manufacturing company, building our first ventilator today, standing start last weekend, supply chain in place and building with in 8 days.
Supply base have been amazing, companies are dedicating entire capacity to support, working 24/7.
We report daily to the Government on progress, even Boris gets a daily update.
Building 500 per day throughout April, working continental shifts 24/7 on the shop floor.
Can't mention who I work for but we were mentioned on yesterday's update from Michael Gove.
Personally I'm in Supply chain, absolutely knackered but hopefully we can make a significant difference to those that need ventilation.
Supply chain will creak due to the unreal demands we are asking of them so please keep us in your thoughts.

Just talked to my great nephew also involved in supplying parts to Mercedes and Rolls Royce - business is booming but manic. They're managing because European suppliers were already stocked up with the parts they're needing to find.

Total respect Maccarone. I worked for a large manufacturer/supplier of PPE for many years and still have lots of friends working there. I know they are all on 24/7 continental shifts as well to try to meet an impossible demand.
I worked in supply chain for a while and worked through SARS, Swine Flu and Bird Flu pandemics so I can appreciate how demanding this particular pandemic is.

Sorry to be a possible party pooper.

Is this manufacturing to an existing, proven design? Or is this a new design?

If the former then my guess is that the approval process might be shorted. As all you are showing is that you have not deviated from the proven design.

If the latter, I hope the approval process is more thorough.

Also, in either case a beta test programme might be in order. As if you build and ship large numbers quickly there is a risk they might fail during early use. With an unexpected problem. Thus causing a logistical nightmare.

Just the programme/project manager coming out in me.

Updated: Apologies if I sound churlish. I did not thank you first for all your hard work. My mistake.

Existing design, same day approval, we should be good to go tomorrow.
A lot of news about Dyson etc but the approval process will be slower for them.
Ok. Good news. Hope the manufacturing process ends up being successful. Fingers crossed for you.

Will there still be a need for a beta site process?

Brilliant the way manufacturing has just dropped everything and stepped up to the plate.

Every time you come home from a shift you can be certain that your day's work has saved someone's life.

No straight to volume it's classed as level 1 so good to go.
New designs like Dyson etc are level 5 so have a longer and more stringent approval process so lots of spin about these but much more complex to get into full manufacture.
It's a PR spin to a degree
