VELOGAMES 2020 🚴🏻‍♂️🚴🏻🚴🏼‍♀️🇫🇷 Tour de France Is Back ( Although Its Called The Big Bike Race)

Dylan Groenewegen wins stage 1 in a sprint of the Tour of Poland but

a horrific crash on the line in the sprint with Fabio Jacobsen crashing into the right hand barriers on the line. It looked very nasty indeed and Eurosport have ended their coverage abruptly.

OMG that was one of the worst crashes I’ve ever seen in cycling. I pray that Jakobsen is ok. Groenewegen will be dqd for sure as he appears to force Jacobsen into the barrier and at the highest speed.

Christ just seen it. That was as you say horrendous.

I was about to say the same and I've been watching racing for around 60 years. Terrible - how do you recover mentally from that let alone physically.

Sorry I didn't join the fun here but I'm between two houses - one without internet.

Horrible crash and, although its not that important in the scheme of things, disqualification was the right thing to do.
Just hope Jacobsen is ok - but, must admit, a little worried for him

Just read he is in an induced coma as is that poor commisar at the finish line.

I think anybody who saw that crash are hoping for good news.

It is certainly something the Tour of Poland didnt need after the Bjorg Lambrecht tragic incident on stage 3 last year.

That was truly horrifying. Forced into the barrier at that speed. I hope he pulls through.

I imagine there is a lot of remorse with Groenewegen but that was awful.

Yes think it was getting heated on Twitter. Patrick Lefevere, DQS manager has stormed

“They have to put this guy of @TeamJumbo in jail 😡

You can understand his anger but as said above Groenewegen must be feeling huge remorse. He’s been rightly thrown out of the race.

Interesting thoughts from ex-sprinter Robbie McEwen. He's saying the barriers are to blame for the extent of the injuries and that he's proposed new designs to the UCI but never even had a response. I think I agree, it's too easy to blame Groenewegen. His actions and his racing line were wrong, but the UCI and race organisers have to be held to account for a downhill sprint finish with barriers made of plastic.

I don't know how these sprinters do it. To be wiped out in a crash such as that one, and then come back 24 hours later and be sprinting that hard and fearlessly again is just mind boggling to me. The guts and mental fortitude to put themselves back in that danger zone is seriously impressive.

The crash that always stands out in my mind is the one with Laurent Jalabert (I think it was him) where he hit the policeman. From memory he was never the same sprinter again.

He’s out of a coma and condition is described as ‘good’
Not sure how you can be ‘good’ after that but - brilliant news (y)

I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it yet. Once I know he's ok then I might check it out.
As for the speeds, it is hard to appreciate unless you've stood at the roadside of a sprint finish. The reaction times alone needed to avoid pileups is staggering, let alone the power being laid down.

Well done so far to Harry Tanfield from Great Ayton riding for AGR2. In 120th position and would be a good tour to get under his belt.

As long as he does the job he’s asked to do each day he won’t be bothered about position. I've been cleaning stuff out during a house move and came across this cover of Harry with his brothers Charlie and Toby from 2008. Cleveland Wheelers have always been a good family-friendly club, I rode with them throughout the '70s.
