Vehicle Recovery Services - Price War?

Just had my reminder from Start Rescue - £25 for a year for their level 3 service - roadside, home start and vehicle, driver and passengers transport home in the UK. It was £40 last year for the same service.

Prices seem to have significantly fallen by all providers.

I am paying £80 + to the AA for less service than that! Time to change
Do your research. The bigger companies do cost more, but you need to know what the smaller firms fleet sizes are like.

Look at TopCashback / Quidco for big cashback amounts off - we change company almost every year

If you can't find it cheaper, ring them and say you'd rather stay with them but want it cheaper; regularly works

Looks like your car has to be less than 5 years old to get that price...

Paid a fortune for the RAC.. took 12 hours to get recovered. Broke down on a Wednesday afternoon 8pm.. got back home 8am Thursday morning.

Got my car back Monday morning..

I pay £20 through my bank account (includes phone insurance and various travel insurances as well). I've only used it once so far but was mich quicker than when I previously used AA.

I was paying a similar amount to AA but for less cover i.e. no home start etc.

I used to do this with Barclays but when I looked at the terms it was for limited call-outs which can be fine for most people, could end up being risky
The phone insurance with them used to be great and several times I basically got the full value of the phone but that was some years ago, claimed on it last year and they had changed company, didn't repair and it wasn't even apple parts used, that prompted me to cancel it.

Packaged bank accounts are a big thing in banking, generally you can get the same services cheaper elsewhere, and you can also benefit from price negotiation, cashback to bring the price down etc but the big one for me is being able to switch company if you have bad service.

not all bad but these days I will look up companies on trustpilot and the like to see what claims processes are like - 20 a month is £240 a year and you can probably get decent cover for all 3 of those things for less than that.

£4.16 a month for phone insurance

£5.40 a month for this start rescue at current prices, but you'd get 15% cashback. Even less if less than 5 years old

£5.33 a month travel insurance

Instant saving of £5 a month so £60/year, plus £10 cashback on the roadside cover. No doubt some will be available on the other policies as well

For some the convenience just works hence banks make decent profit out of selling them - I kept it on mine for years out of laziness mostly for the phone cover and when I think back they had hundreds out of me every year and when eventually needed it the cover was awful and I ended up buying a new phone as the repair meant my girlfriends phone screen was regularly non responsive but you only had 24h to raise a defect with the provider.

think its less a price war, and just them assessing your car from data they have is a very low risk of breaking down so money for nothing
