Vaxxed or masked

Biden says that soon fully vaccinated Americans won't need to wear a mask.

A) is this actually enforceable and how?

B) is there strong evidence now to show that being fully vaccinated stops you spreading? I honestly don't know.

Last report I saw was that it reduces the chance of you passing on infections by 50%. If that's correct that's probably a hell of a lot more than a mask. Although I disagree with him and think he's only doing it to appease the far right. Beyond isolation no method is particularly strong at preventing transmission. Which is why we need to social distance and hand sanitise and mask up and get vaccinated. Go all in

I work for an American company and obviously work with a lot of Americans, and the one thing that puzzles me greatly is the fervent response when they perceive they are being told what to do by those in charge, even if what they are being told to do is in their best interest, ie, vaccines, gun safety, education, masks, the environment, etc etc. Its baffling.

I have never heard any other country bang on so much about their freedom, liberty and constitutional rights, like the rest of the world is enslaved by comparison.

It might be funny if it wasn't so horrifying and didn't affect the rest of the world..

I suppose its deeply ingrained in their culture since gaining independence from a oppressive, powerful Empire and being one of the pioneers and premium flag-bearers of capitalism/free markets/democracy. Its easy to just say "Oh silly fat Americans" about their behaviours (not saying you did this Billy) but there is nothing genetic about it, they are a country made up of cultures from all over the world. This over-arching obsession with freedom is a result of circumstance, surely? They're not all sat around making conscious decisions to be 'brash' etc. As a result of this culture many of them have also developed a highly-cynical outlook, which in many ways is very easily explained.

I agree 100%.

In fact an American friend of mine is convinced that the US should have always been 4 or 5 separate entities rather than one giant thing.

I have had conversations about healthcare for example, and one friend sees the idea of public healthcare as one step removed from communism, and that he should have the choice where and how he gets treated, even if it costs him $1000 a month to pay into his plan then thousand of dollars every time he needs treatment. Similarly with education, people going into hundreds of thousands of debt just to go to college.

Dont get me wrong, I love spending time in the US, but there are aspects of American life and culture which scare the 5hit out of me, and I fear for the impending doom of aspects of this in our daily lives in the UK.

22 states have already lifted almost all coronavirus restrictions. No mask mandates, no stay-at-home orders or interstate travel quarantines are in place.

I'm 2x vaxxed and at this point I'll continue to wear the mask. It used to be a pet peeve of mine when someone passed me their cold/flu by coughing all over, and tbh I don't want to go back to that.

I think it could be a ploy to get more people to get vaccinated, which to me is fair enough, whilst cases are lower than they have been, and over summer.

If he said "get vaccinated" to the Republicans they would go against it out of spite, even if it put them at more risk.

It's like giving a kid a chocolate bar, after they've eatenn their greens. The kid thinks they're winning, but in reality, they're not, and there is no outcome where they get the chocolate bar without the greens being eaten first.

Me too, fully agree and also love spending time there. But California, New York, the Central/Southern States all may as well be different countries, the only thing binding them is the language.
