Variant of concern in South Africa

Did anyone see the headline in the sun. I can't quite recall the wording but it was something like "New deadly covid variant rages across europe" It was woeful reporting.

Chise is usually spot on 99% of the time so all in all promising news. She also knows her **** before she posts anything.
Ah yeah, I trust Chise mind, just it was based on The Jerusalem Post, and something to do with Channel 12, and I’ve no idea about either of those.

Like she says though, prelim info, still a lot to learn on this one.

They’ll do anything to sell a paper, we all know that. Cretins.

I did read the whole article, then washed my eyes with boiling water. It wasn't just the headline, the whole article sensationalised covid in general and omricon in particular. It was like a prediction of the walking dead.

Don’t know why you bother :ROFLMAO: You’ll be blind for life.

Just catching up on this thread and noticed a few posts about being abroad and the difference in masks wearing etc.

I’m in Copenhagen this week and it seems to be fairly similar to England, I’d say about 60/40 for mask wearing. We’ve also only been asked for a vaccine passport in pubs/restaurants twice. Very relaxed feel about the place.

Problem is, people believe it. Then Boris comes out and states that he will throw everything at the booster.

Strange coincidence.

We really need to turn off our tvs and live our own lives and not how the media wants us to.

Mainstream news media has a huge problem in the age of YouTube and Twitter. We just don't need them anymore. Not only can you get information faster, if you watch the actual source you can often get the truth, devoid of editing or editorial.

Unfortunately this means that news media has either become skewed towards their subscriber base - e.g. more extreme left or right, or uses hyperbole to attract attention. And they resort to dodgy stuff like posting negative comments in their own article comments section to generate argument and keep people on the page longer (and therefore exposed to ads).

Yes 'cos we all know that the likes of Facebook and Twitter are so accurate and never carry any misinformation.🙄 YERJOKINARNYER!

Listening to the Press Conference last night I got the impression that they aren't as worried as they were. All this talk of ending restrictions as soon as they can etc is a change from the PM.

Pfizer booster 93% effective was reported online yesterday so maybe, just maybe, we could be back to 'normal' in a couple of weeks??

The NHS Trust I work have just had to reallocate significant staff from routine outpatient services to supporting inpatient and covid activities. They are borderline on whether to shut the outpatient completely due to the demands of the more sick inpatients. Surgeries- including the emotive cancer ones are also being rationed as there is no ITU capacity to support them.

Regardless of variant severity, this gradual increase in covid cases and hospitalisations on normal winter NHS pressures is going to put a lot of NHS services on hold again.

Once a hospital is full, it's full. Going to be a tough next few months I think. Stay safe, and be sensible.

You're right about this. I use BBC as "a broad starter" for quick UK news, but on a topic which I find more interesting I'll look on Twitter for more detail, or look at the the actual source, and who they actually are. The more important it is to me, the more I'll look into it, and look more into what the other actual experts are saying. Tend to find those that go into more detail, or use more independent sources are the ones are the ones I listen to the most.

Don't bother at all with the print press, complete waste of time.
